But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 1 Corinthians 12:9
Greek word for sufficient: arkeó
- enough, complete, content, satisfied, paid
For starters, the context of the scripture shows that Paul had some needs. And he says that he wanted to not be in need. he also said that Satan sent him a constant reminder of that need. Then Paul says that God replied that His grace in Paul’s life is enough for him to deal with, and to meet that need.
Paul actually had a thorn, and if we remember that thorns are pricks on the stems of roses; therefore Paul was in some kind of suffering.
God’s GRACE was enough for Paul to go on with this suffering, whatever it was- whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.
God’s grace is sufficient…
- To endure through pain of any kind.
- To empower us to fulfill God’s call and ministry responsibility.
- To establish our security in Christ and eternal destiny.
Sometimes I become overwhelmed with life, and I get exhausted with the cares of life, the responsibilities and expectations, and I struggle to rest and enjoy life. But God’s grace strengthens us daily, of we are willing to rest in God. It would be easy of we could know how to rest from day one- but it is a learned habit we must develop.
Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalms 46:10
To rest in God means to trust God no matter what. And to trust God means to humbly follow Him, no matter what. And to follow Him, is to carry our cross (sacrifice our will for His) and deny ourselves (do and accept all things for the glory of God).
AND WE NEED GRACE TO DO THIS!!!!!!!
Only God can help us, assist us, sustain us! There is no other way, definitely not our human strength or effort.
Lord God of mercy and of provision, I pray that you would instruct those who do not have received this knowledge or revelation; I pray you bless them and those reading this devotional today my God with the full knowledge of grace. May your grace be the power that walks us to eternal salvation, and to deal with others gracefully as well. Let nothing or no one around us impose their legalism, we are no longer slaves of the law which brings condemnation, in Jesus name I pray Amen.
