Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the Lord your God is with you where ever you go. Joshua 1:9
If we stop to count the many types of fear that are around us in church and in the world, we would be outnumbered! (Because overwhelmed is an understatement)
Fears (to name a very few):
- Fear of failure
- Fear of sickness
- Fear of death
- Fear of judgment
- Fear of uncertainty
- Fear of loneliness
I believe that when God and Joshua were having this conversation (yes, conversation) God was telling Joshua to be brave, and Joshua said but I am brave I don’t fear the giants- I have greater fears. And God reassured him ‘the way I was Moses, with signs, wonders, strategy and provision- this same way I will be with YOU’. And Joshua said ‘Yea I know, you are all powerful’. And God knowing his deeper thoughts, and convictions said you know that ‘I am a God of order, and in order for you to stay strong and courageous, and in victory you have to stay in my word– not only reading but meditating, and you have to share the wealth in the scriptures with others’.
And Joshua said ‘Okay, I got you father God’, and God said ‘okay son so what did I just do? I commanded you to be strong and courageous right? Okay good just making sure you were listening; remember that me being with you means that I am the majority, I am the power, I am the victory, I am the Company and I am all you will ever need at any given moment- and I am will always be with you’.
God had given Joshua instructions, and He made Joshua a promise that he had to walk out.
God basically told Joshua what it says in Ephesians 2:10: I have preordained good works that you may walk in them. You just have to get to planning and working. It is nice to hope and to depend on me, but I need you to believe me and act!
God expects us to believe and to move by faith.
Be strong and courageous because God is with you all the days of your life.
A few years ago, I believe it was 2012 I went to a youth convention and God gave me a vision. In this vision, he showed me three tombstones: these read mother, father and husband. God’s holy spirit then said to me I will never leave you nor forsake you: I understood that God would never die and leave me. But my family would leave me, my husband may leave me- we are merely humans and humans are nothing but grass that withers. Yet God is faithful, and constant.
Lord God Almighty, I thank you for your deliverance power. Thank you for your time, and for bringing me into this walk. It is not always easy for me to accept your ways, but I trust that you are with me: always sustaining, always helping, always counseling and comforting. Help us all Lord, to keep this reminded firm in our hearts- may we be transformed each day and night by this trust. May this belief become a deep conviction in our very being, and let no circumstance separate us from your love. In Jesus name, I pray Amen.
