He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. 1 John 2:6
In the beginning God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness” (Genesis 1:26) this means we were made to resemble God and the bible says that “God is spirit” (John 4:24), so we have to analyze our selves and see if we are walking in His spirit. God gave us His breath, the bible says he breathed into us the breath of life- Nephesh (soul; Genesis 2:7), this is our invisible nature, our soul and spirit.
When God says be holy as I am holy, he refers to the image of God that is in our spirit. We know that God works from the inside out, if we are clean on the inside we will be clean on the outside. God told man, to have dominion over the living things and to replenish the earth, which are things God is responsible for. He wanted us to work with Him, not simply for Him.
If we stop for a moment to ponder on God, we would amazed with His knowledge, wisdom and creativity. In Matthew 4 Satan challenges Jesus, daring him to make food for himself since he was hungry after 40 days of fasting. He commands Jesus to make the stones to bread, in other words: He was testing Jesus: “show me that u have creative power, are you not the ‘son of God'”?
As children of God, called to resemble God we have to know who we are and our PURPOSE! Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, he had a destiny assigned to Mary, Joseph, his brothers and disciples. Jesus also had to submit himself to God’s timing. When Jesus was 12 or 13 years old, he claimed the famous statement: I must be about my father’s business”. This signifies that God had revealed to him that he was called to purpose. But Jesus had to wait until his 30’s for His divine time of purpose. Jesus also had to be baptized, not because He sinned but because he was subject to humanity’s sinful nature.
The lord entered ministry in his thirties, I suppose he worked jobs and attended school like many of us. I suppose he made jokes, and visited family and friends, he went to weddings and he drank wine. These are all hypothetical because I cannot say I read it in the bible, but if he was 33 when he entered ministry (service to others) it is only right that we suppose he was a normal human being on planet earth. He had to make money, and I am sure that He learned the scriptures as it was Jewish custom. The bible does say that Jesus would stay out and pray alone to God the father and it also mentions in Hebrews that He was tempted in all ways as we are, and therefore he is able to have compassion on us.
And I will leave you with all these thoughts, because they can be edifying if you stop to meditate on them.
If we are to really be like Christ we cannot only think about his spiritual side, he had a human side which he had to manage!
Lord teach us to walk like you, talk like you and be more like you, here on this earth. We get so used to this humanity and these five senses that it feels like holiness in your Spirit is a full time job. Show us the joy that is at your right hand, show us your glory and your power in Jesus name I pray, Amen.
