So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives, walk in the spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16

There are plenty of things we can worry about or lust after every single day!

One of the targets against our spiritual walk, is the world. Its ways, its trends and customs, and all it offers. Some people think that lust is constricted to sex and sexual activities, but lust is desire.

Strong desire. It is actually okay to have desires, because the bible says that God will give us the desires of our hearts.

God’s ways are not our ways, and what is of God usually comes with the price of suffering. And once we attain the desire (promise) then it is maintained by work, which requires joy, which is a result of pleasing God.

Our desires vary, some desire companionship, some desire wealth, others comfort or fun. And these desires usually take us out of focus.  Even time spent on our phones, online, social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc), media entertainment (music, movies, TV), exercise, work, family duties, our home up-keeping (home repairs, meals, laundry, etc) and even simple things like ministry can all take us out of focusing on Jesus.

I will mention a few challenges with ministry because NOBODY talks about this reality:

  • time
  • energy
  • work

Ministry is work! It takes time, and effort. And even though you can be reading and studying scriptures you can very easily substitute prayer and church attendance with working for God. Very easily people can become overworked, and others develop an obligation work ethic- like that of a regular 9-5. And others quite sadly begin to compete with others, for ministerial positions or excelling in all ways in order to win approval from pastors and leaders, etc. Where is the integrity, and for sure where is your heart’s intention. You can fool the pastor, and the church members, but nothing escapes God. He knows your heart.

One day, Jesus went to visit Mary and Martha in Luke 10, Jesus rebukes Martha for being busy. And Martha was actually in the kitchen preparing Jesus a meal!

Mary sat at the Lord’s feet and chose to spend time with Jesus.

Let’s pray:

Father God, help us in our every day life to actually spend time with you. This is how we can learn your attitude and character. This is how we can be more like you, and how we can please you as well. I pray for tolerance, meekness, and patience to reign in our every day character. I pray u would change our speech from slander, judgement, gossip or vulgarities. Let us taste our words and speak them well seasoned preserved for the right time. May you help us discern when worldly things are taking your time, and leading us away from your salvation. We confess that we are weak, and we are tempted to fill our time and soul with worldly things instead of the gospel. Help us to seek approval from u and not man, help us to stand firm against the ungodly sinful desires of the flesh and provide for us an escape when temptations come. And Lord help us God to use our talents and spiritual gifts in cohesion as a blessing and privilege, and not a burden to our lives in Jesus name, Amen.
