Devotional 12/24/2016

Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. Joyful are those who obey His laws and search for Him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in His paths. You have charged us to keep Your commandments carefully. Psalm 119:1-4

How can two walk in the same direction if they don’t agree?

Sometimes it’s hard to be a Christian because you end up pretty alone and pretty lonely when you want to please God. Sometimes within the circle of Christian believers themselves, in the house of God, sometimes you have hold the same convictions or hold the same set of standards. I have lived and seen the best of friends become regular friends, or even stop being friends because of differences in standards. One may think it’s normal to make fun of the skin color, race or cultures in regular conversation while the other totally avoids generalizing people and allowing the enemy to plant seed of hate or discord in anyone including themselves. In other occasions, I have seen friends argue over perception, over opinions which undoubtedly becomes murmuring and gossip.

These things seem so normal because they are regular for the world. These are part of the worlds’ ways but they are not God’s ways.

God’s kingdom has a government, God is the head, the lord is the right hand man and Holy Spirit is counselor. The word of God is the handbook in this kingdom. The word of God is the law and the law does not change per person.

The law does not operate by conviction, the law of God is.

When we compromise God’s standards, we directly deny God in our lives, and we hurt the Holy Spirit. We begin to suffocate God’s glory, and God’s joy is dimmed in our lives.

All throughout the Bible we are reminded and exhorted to be faithful, to live according to scripture and to correct those who are against it too! How can we do this if we walk with those people, compromising and sacrificing all that we have invested and all that God has invested in us!?

Sometimes even us who claim to be Christians, live like the world. Things of the world and its sensual allurements take priority over God and His word. Things like preoccupation for achievements, popularity, acceptance, and other self seeking purposes will lead us right out of the word of God.

This is why God tells us to come out from among them. Yes, even the Christian ones. Even so, in Corinthians the Bible says that we should not even eat with those who say to be Christian but are blatantly in sin.

Is that not a strong bitter cup of coffee?

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, my entire Christian life I believe to have compromised in one way or another. And I ask you to forgive me, for staying friends with people who turn their back on you, for meddling in worldly things and its ways. I’m truly saddened and I pray for those who have done the same. I pray for your mercy, your courage to do right and your boldness to do correct those Christians who silence the word by their actions, in Jesus name, Amen.
