The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. Jeremiah 17:9-10
The Message bible says :
The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful,
a puzzle that no one can figure out.
But I, God, search the heart
and examine the mind.
I get to the heart of the human.
I get to the root of things.
I treat them as they really are,
not as they pretend to be.”
Following your heart prioritizes your desires above all others.
My heart has desired things that I are downright evil, embarrassing and trifling to say the least! We have to take notice that the heart only thinks of itself, it doesn’t consider God, or others very much, even though it does occasionally. Even if our heart insists that it is always right. Everywhere we go, being that we are in the world, we get the advice: “FOLLOW YOUR HEART”.
But this is a danger if taken literally, the heart guides our very life. The bible says that murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander all come from the heart. How can we trust the heart to counsel us in life? Only God knows what is best for us, not our heart.
Our feelings, emotions and even our desires change.
The bible also that we are supposed to keep our minds focused on God, and then we would received the peace of God- we will actually be kept by the peace of God.
By nature we are selfish!! I cannot say this enough. Remember Jesus came into our hearts, but he actually makes a home in our spirit. In order for Jesus to change us, he begins from the inside out. He has a mighty work to do: our minds must be transformed, and our hearts will follow, eventually giving way to our lives to follow.
As Christian God expects for us to submit even our hearts to Him, meaning we have to intentionally trust Him and deny our selves no matter the circumstance.
Father God, honestly every things seems like a lie and I have a million questions to ask, but I wont. I only ask that you help us to choose wisely, and may you increase our discernment that we may prosper through life. I present our hearts to you, purify us from the inside out in Jesus name, Amen.
