For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid or fearful, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

Without self discipline success is impossible. – Lou Haltz

It’s funny how God’s word insults us, and we humbly explain that it confronts us. Sometimes it is better to say, “the bible says”, when insulting someone, and that way we are not held accountable for our words.

I’m funny right…. Well it’s true. That’s why I decided to blog, and that’s why I love the word of God, because it’s not gray, it’s straight forward. God is a poet, and a great writer. He uses metaphors, and similes when there is no literal way to explain or express things, He knows how to speak to each of us.

We need to develop self discipline to not be sucked into society’s trends, which so often push us off track. We need to ensure that we are growing emotionally, and not being emotionally led. We should develop self control, which is to stop and think:

  • Is this gratifying to God?
  • Will this help me for the future?
  • Does this match my expectations?
  • What kind of result will I get from doing this?

Once we notice that an action, emotion or thought is affecting our opportunities any way we need to change.

A lot of people know what they need to change but many do not know how to do so. Life is about priorizing, and making decisions.

Decisions are made, based solely on the values we hold. We all have values, but not many know what their underlying values are.Our values are imbedded in our hearts, and can only change when dealt with.

Values:

  • God
  • Family
  • Work
  • Ambition
  • Purpose
  • Ministry
  • Happiness
  • Fun

My values are God and purpose. These values drive my life, if I see that a person or thing brings harm or trouble to my relationship with God, or poses a threat to my purpose I tend to address it. Sometimes we can adjust our relationships, or take ourselves out of situations by decision. And usually our feelings have a lot to say.

But our feelings are not our conscience, and our feelings are not God.

Let’s pray:

Father God, you are holy and your are all knowing; I present to you our conscience and our will, may you be the God of our lives. May your holy spirit increase us, and help us make decisions that conform to your value. May you realign our values and priorities lists, so that life may not pass us by to waste. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
