Devotional 3/4

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21

Our words have real power.

The Bible says that the words we speak come from our heart, and it also says that we should guard our hearts because our destiny comes from it. There is a very evident relationship between our hearts and mouth, the things we say whether positive or not will impact our hearts which will then direct our life.

Our words give birth to action, the Bible also says that murders, robberies, adultery all come from our heart. So actions and words both come from our heart. So what are we guiding our heart from? How does anything get into our heart?

With our words we can bless or curse each other and our future.

I think sometimes we do not want to believe that we prophesy our future. But this Scripture does confront all of us because it says: “We will eat the fruit of our words.” That means we’re going to bear fruit (grow, reap, produce, harvest) according to what comes out of our mouth.

Isn’t that amazing? Now I’m not saying everything we speak will come to pass, but there is a definite truth, this being that our words have power. We cannot live a positive life declaring negative things. We cannot praise God and curse people and call our self living a good life. And we definitely cannot be speaking constantly and not expect it will enter our hearts.

God said: Let there be light. And it was so.

The book of Proverbs speaks abundantly about the power of our words. We can bring healing to others or break people’s spirits with our words. We can bless or curse. We can empower or confuse. We can direct or confuse. We can lead or we can mislead.

Let’s pray:

Father God, thank You for our words and the creating power in them. Thank You for your Holy Spirit, which gives us that power to match our words to declare blessing and righteousness in our lives. May we choose to use our words to bless, empower and lead others. May we receive a prosperous harvest from the words we sow. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
