“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”Romans 1:21
Everything we do should be a result of our gratitude for what God has done for us.
The first chapter of the letter to the church in Rome, actually refuted all type of conversation of a guiltless people before God. Paul said that we, all humans, are without excuse to the knowledge of God. God is evident in all of creation. If you are like me in anyway, you would come t the conclusion that the universe was created by a Higher Being. Maybe you believe the big bang theory, that the world was formed without a creator. But god is evident by His marvelous works. He makes Himself known to us, by love. The love we experience from friends, family, lovers, and children.
I have heard people say that there is no hell, because hell is here on earth. That perception could not be more wrong, in hell there is no joy, pleasure and definitely no laughter. The bible says that there is torture, and never ending fire in hell, definitely different from having life on earth.
When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.
When you know God, you are to glorify him and show your gratitude. Gratitude means BEING thankful and appreciative: counting your blessings, and enjoying the simple pleasures, noticing good things, and acknowledging everything that you receive.
- praise and worship (God); praise, extol, exalt, worship, revere, reverence, venerate, pay homage to, honor, adore, give thanks to.
- to describe or represent as admirable, especially unjustifiably: exalt, elevate, dignify, enhance, augment, promote;
Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. I’ve learned in my own life going from jaded to Grateful, has been an upward climb. It’s good to go higher, but it takes effort and endurance to go higher. Research shows that when we practice gratitude, we improve emotionally, psychologically and behavior follows. To discipline, or re-train our minds and hearts to give thanks actually makes us happier and makes us aware of God. It glorifies God in our lives. One thing that brings peace and joy to us brings glory to God. This way we how the problem, that God is bigger than our problem, issues and suffering. We learn to rise above the circumstances, but when we do not and remain in a bitter complaining place- God is not glorified but instead pushed aside and depreciated. When we find ourselves wondering why so much adversity in the world, why such a hard process for me? And you begin to meditate the way God expects us to, by faith- Even though I am hurting now, the good in this is… Through this I am learning that… Looking back from sometime in the future I find it was beneficial because…
When we resist being gratefulness to God, we deny His existence. And He lets us be enticed by our own minds. Tomorrow I will expound on what that means, but today let’s acknowledge God by being grateful!
