Devotional 4/22

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Ephesians 4:23

We all set out to make a difference in the world, but the first step is to achieve the less lofty goal of changing your own world.
TD Jakes

God doesn’t see who we are, He sees who we are in Christ. He sees our future, and therefore speaks to us according to our caliber.

  • The quality of someone’s character or the level of someone’s ability; quality, merit, distinction, stature, excellence, preeminence.

Many times we speak negatively over the hard times we encounter in life, but I learned long ago to ask God for purpose. And he would always say : “this is prep time.”. Time and time again I am reminded that I am not yet, the person that God sees when He looks at me. We walk and talk as if we have no faith, and have really serious tendencies to call complaining and negotiating, prayer. If you find yourself venting to God, you are not exactly praying; you are venting. If you do not wait on God, worship Him and sit still in His presence.. in that moment… in that silence.. you aren’t conversing with God, you are simply talking. If we have a friend, but you are the only one who listens, then when you are ready to speak they have to go: in sorry, but that relationship is not authentic. Such is our relationship with God, we have a give and take. We give and receive, we praise and we offer sacrifice of praise, while God gives us His power and presence. What’s this power and presence for? What’s anointing anyway? Is it for something?

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start and make a new ending.”

God’s anointing is for us to be a fascet of God’s unique expression here on earth. God’s anointing is the unction to function. God does not only give us His Holy Spirit to cast out demons, prophecy and heal the sick: He provides everything we need to be who He designed us to be. If you are a doctor, God gives you the unction to function as an excellent and loving doctor. If you are an evangelist, He gives you the unction to function in your calling. We do not always think of Holy Spirit as a person, and others do not think of Him as power. We cannot limit God, but we should definitely embrace His many facets.

We are a direct expression of God here on earth, although we may not be as refined as He wants us to be. And this is when we need, desperately need, Holy spirit’s help. We need His unction to function!

Transformation is more about unlearning than learning. Richard Rohr

God’s heart is for us to become more and more like Jesus was here on earth, and who He is in heaven. The Bible says that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We do not always act as if we were in heaven. We barely even walk by faith, we tend to walk by sight. And then eventually if we catch our error, we change back into the spirit and refocus our faith lenses. Jesus was meek and humble, He was compassionate and zealous for the house of God, He was a man of prayer and authority, and finally he was given to love, servanthood and obedience.

Since we are to be transformed into God’s likeness, we are to evaluate our thought patterns and decide to guide them in the correct direction: the word of God. We are to deny our natural nature in being led by our flesh (sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste) and our soul (our heart, mind and will), and in turn be led by God’s Holy Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, meekness, faith and self control).

Dear God, we need you we ask for your love and your fellowship. Wake us up in the midnight hours that we may know you more and more. That we may be led of you, in all things, and may we always invite into all of our situations. May you arrest and cast out all spirits of despair, hopelessness, depression and bitterness from all of our lives! May we be restored to love you, as our first love. help us to understand your and receive your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
