Devotional 4/25

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”. Mark 4:39-40

Everything is going to be alright. Maybe not right now, but eventually.

Maybe you have gone through a lot, and are asking God questions. Some of you have had tragic things happen in your childhood, or in your adult life but God has not done you wrong. We are not God. He alone is sovereign. God is only watching our attitude. Our emotions are so inconsistent, and fluctuate various times in one day, the devil finds a way to use our feelings and emotional state.

When we allow ourselves to sulk in everything that is opposite from the fruit of the spirit, we give him entry into our life in order to embarrass us. Not only in church or at home, but embarrass you to the point that you lose respect and the respect of others. The Bible says that when we are baptized we bury the old life and its tendencies, and exchange it for a new life in Christ. All the wrongs, the attitudes, the rejection, the abandonment, the abuse, etc are submerged into the waters, and when we rise up from the waters, we begin to walk in the newness of life. Some people are not convicted at all, others for all their lives, while some lose it along the way.

Conviction:

  1. a formal declaration that someone is guilty of a criminal offense, made by the verdict of a jury or the decision of a judge in a court of law; declaration of guilt, sentence, judgment
  2. a firmly held belief or opinion; belief, opinion, view, thought, persuasion, idea, position, stance

I want to help you, but you have to be a willing participant.

I see it too often in Christianity, where people begin all hyped in God- with so much potential, guts and conviction. And after two or three years, become the spiritually neglectful or dead Christian still coming to church. I sympathize and empathize with many people because by God’s grace I am called to encourage, but when I recognize wrong: I call it wrong.

Sometimes we have a wrong view of God, a wrong sense of ourselves or have a wrong perception of life and this thought life does give birth to fruit. It happens just like that, we forget. Can you believe I have gone through all three seasons? Years ago, around 2013 I began to feel like I was alone, I apparently forgot how happy I was to have received God’s holy spirit who would never leave me or forsake me. We forget about God’s unconditional love, mercy, and patience. We forget His promises, when they do not come to pass in OUR timing. We hate church when we find out Christians, are messed up individuals just like those in the world, and we forget that Jesus is the reason we come to church in the first place. We forget that serving God is a joy, when we see people getting titles and talking about competition or in envy for ministry. We forget that God is our source of joy and peace, when we find relationships with people, or things that bring us some comfort.

If I fast track to now, in this very moment, I can say that I am still learning to be content. I am disappointment and dissatisfied in God, in life and in myself. But I am also have chosen to not be depressed and hopeless, or angry; yes, I get sad and feel abandoned by God, but I know that it is not true. I feel forgotten like God, like Hannah, Joseph and Rachel, but I believe God will come through in His time. It’s not about how I feel, its about what I believe.

It is not about how you feel, It is about what you believe.

Reality is that we have feelings, and feeling are very much real but the truth is not reality. The truth is God, His word and all he has done for us. God brought us into a relationship with Him, why Rahab? Why did Rahab receive peace with God, why not all of Jericho?

Let’s pray:

Father God, I pray for those who are giving up on you. May you prevent them from backsliding or being bound again, may you protect them from evil traps that the enemy has set for them. Protect them, and speak love to them, comfort them in their pains. In Jesus name, Amen.
