Devotional 7/8

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Genesis 3:7, 21

What happens after disobedience?

I think it is interesting that Adam and Eve were able to put two and two together and cover their nakedness with leaves. They sewed fig trees together, before there were any fashion designers or any sewing machines. This is proof that we are creative beings, and are able to develop talents according to need and survival. But I also see how awesome and phenomenal God is, in making them coats of animal skin. The bible says that they made themselves aprons, but God made them coats, or tunics. So God gave them more than they gave themselves, God thought beyond and saved them time! Gave them warmth! and also FULLY covered their nakedness.

Isn’t it cool that even after they messed up, God still provided for them?

What he provided for them was not just for one day or two; what he provided for them was designed to last. We know that leaves will eventually deteriorate, lasting only about a week after being cut from the roots: but animal skin is long lasting. They made themselves leave clothing, but God made them leather jackets and fur coats.

  • What is the significance of their nakedness in specific?
    – shame
    – disobedience
    – discouragement

God will provide physically, and God will provide emotionally and spiritually. Later on in the chapter, God made it known that He had provided a solution for their disobedience. He told Adam and Eve, you brought damnation unto yourselves, and will still suffer the consequences of disobedience, but I already have a plan.

After they sinned, God declared curses for their disobedience but he already made a prophetic declaration. He said a child will come from your womb, and will crush the serpents head. Who will crush the serpent’s head? Who is HE? Jesus Christ, the man which came of the woman’s womb. Jesus Christ that was born of a virgin, by way of the holy spirit conception in her womb. The lamb of God that was slained before the foundations of the earth. (Revelation 13:8) and God already knew he would defeat, crush the serpent’s head. This one would overcome the devil and his works at the cross, giving us forgiveness for sins and raising His own body: publicly disgracing them, and taking away their power (satan’s offspring- principalities and powers in heavenly places) (Colossians 2:15).

Let’s pray:

Lord God almighty! Thank you lord for always reminding us, that you planned this all out before the world was even created. Thank you for your sovereignty, and help every Christian know that sin does not have to become spiritual death and separation but another stepping stone to know grace. May you help each person stuck in sin, or any person lost in condemnation. Let them know that the enemy roars like a lion, but that he was already defeated by the Lion of the tribe of Judah, God himself. Let them know that you resurrected after the cross, and publicly shamed the devils and all of their powers. Give them joy, hope and strength to continue to walk you in Jesus name, Amen.
