Devotional 8/1

Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. Isaiah 46:11

By faith, we can see it coming.

In this scripture Isaiah uses the symbolism of raven to promote the fact that God can use even the wildest of people to get His purpose established. The background of this scripture tells of God using a man who does not even acknowledge God, to bless His people. From studying this verse, I learned that God was referring to a Persian ruler named Cyrus. In his first year as king “Cyrus the Great”, was prompted by God to order that Temple be rebuilt. And for this to occur, the Jews needed to be set free from Babylonian captivity.

When the bible says that the man executes His counsel, is God saying I placed the idea and desire in his heart and He obeyed. Let’s be clear, God does not consult with anyone but Himself! But He does counsel us so that we become instruments of His own use. In Philippians the bible says that God gives us the will and desire to do as He pleases, and in Proverbs it says that He also directs the heart of the rulers he has given authority to- so even if we think to do God’s will is extremely hard or impossible- He would use a hater of God if He pleases.

  • The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the LORD; he guides it wherever he pleases. Proverbs 21:1
  • For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:13

And in case you do not know, yes, we are God’s vessels. We are either used by Him or the world. And the world, means Satan’s agenda.

  • In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:20-21

While I read Isaiah 46, I suddenly remembered that if God wants to bless me or you, He can easily put it in somebody’s heart. If God wants to bless you, He can use anybody from the Christian to the God hater. I receive it Lord! Do you!?

Let’s pray:

Lord, bless us. Use whoever you want God. We will give you all the glory, the honor and all the praise. And that is a FACT!  And thank you for being our help in time of need. Thank you for reminding us that anyone is subject to you, to bring your purpose to pass. May your will, which is perfect and bringing no sadness, be done here on earth, as it is in heaven. Thank you for your word, which makes us understand your character. In Jesus name Lord, thank you for your word. Amen.
