Devotional 8/3

For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11

God is looking out for us, training us and helping us to succeed in His kingdom for His own name’s sake!

The psalmist describes God as a Sun and a shield. As a sun God shows the way, He illuminates our path and enlightens our minds. As a shield He protects, defends and blocks attacks on our behalf. According to the scripture the lord gives us grace, which is His undeserved favor and glory which is His holiness and respect. And the scripture concludes saying that God will not hold back good things from us who walks respecting specifically God’s ordained way. God’s way is according to the scripture. Some people can claim to be upright, but totally dismiss or pick and choose what to believe or obey in the word of God. When God honors us, He places us in high places. For example, God honored Joseph by making him the leader in every stage of His life, he honored Hannah by answering her petition to birth a child, He honored Mary, the mother of Jesus, by choosing her to birth Jesus the Christ, and He honored Jesus by giving Him back all authority in heaven and on earth.

Uprightly in Hebrew: Tamam

  • complete, entire, sound, wholesome, unimpaired, innocent, having integrity, sincere: of God’s way

How does God fight for us? He strengthens us daily, He opens our minds to see what the actual battle is, and he illuminates the dark places in our hearts and mindsets so that we know what we are dealing with. God also increases our faith and convictions about His character so that grace may sustain us, and the more we recognize His love we are able to allow Him to help us. God also operates in mercy, where He is good to you not because you give Him His rightful place, but so that His goodness will lead you to repent! Why do I feel like God is not fighting for me? Because your heart is a deceiver, and your mindset needs to be renewed to believe the scriptures. God is sovereign, and He is our sovereign protector. He will not fail, because His name he will not profane! In Isaiah 48:9-11, God is very adamant about holding up His name!

“For My name’s sake I will defer My anger,
And for My praise I will restrain it from you,
So that I do not cut you off.
Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;
I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
For My own sake, for My own sake, I will do it;
For how should My name be profaned
And I will not give My glory to another.”

I can hear you saying things I would say… like “well I don’t expect God to bless me, I am not perfect, I mess up to much, sometimes I deliberately choose sin if I’m having a crazy day and I sure do not think I am righteous either.” But see, knowing our sinful nature is important because we can choose to subject it to Jesus. This way he makes Himself strong in our weaknesses and imperfection. But it is also essential to know the truth found in the word of God. In Romans 3 (I believe), Paul reminds the church that Jesus is our righteousness. We do not earn righteousness; having faith in Jesus, makes us the righteousness of God. Being in Him and having His spirit makes us competent and enables us to do His will, even giving us the grace to live in connection with God Himself. The only way we forsake God’s will, is to literally make a choice to walk away.

Found this online, thought it was pretty accurate.

GRACE:

God’s Righteousness At Christ’s Expense

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, I give you glory because you know the end from the beginning. You called and created us for your glory, knowing that we would fail during different seasons, knowing that we would be immature and need to develop your fruit, and that our faith would need pruning so that we could grow in you. You knew Peter would deny you but you still chose Him, and you still went after him to forgive him and to use him. i thank you because even while we can be shaken, you are not. Even if we are faithless, or adulterous, you are faithful. help us to be more godly, each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
