Devotional 8/19

Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31

Like the grand eagle, you spread your wings

And put forth the effort to do great things.

Looking skyward you dared to challenge the wind,

Harnessing power to help you ascend.

With an eye on the goal, fixed in flight,

You climbed to an impressive height.

Undaunted by gusts and unkind gails,

You never gave up and would not fail.

So now you’ve reached where few even try

As the eagle high in a glorious sky.

Not superior, but grand.

Not proud, but sure.

Not a cub, wolf, or bear but an eagle pure.

Today you soar.

Richelle E. Goodrich

Eagles have better eyesight than us humans; 3-4 times farther (better) vision than us. Their eyes were designed by God, for long distance focus, they can see about 50 miles distance clearly. We should ask God for eagle vision to see far ahead, in spirit. As an intercessor, when I’m focused and in position, God gives me keen vision to see what’s coming next for myself, and whoever I’m praying for. If you get in tune with God, as you wait for Him to act, He will sharpen your vision, so that you may see things in the spirit, like attacks, warnings, provisions and sudden changes. He basically does this because remember in John 15, He is our friend and let’s us know what the father has him tell us.

Another amazing trait I found about eagles is that they are generally unaffected by high or low temperatures (they control their own temperature) and Strong, mighty winds. I suppose God wants us to remain unaffected by outer circumstances!!! Eagles cant turn their heads a full circle like owls, but they have agility to move. Also, they fly at a speed of 75 mph and higher, that’s about 30 miles an hour in 30 minutes. Thirty miles is over 500 New York City blocks, imagine traveling that, in 30 minutes! Something else I thought is worth mentioning is that they don’t necessarily flap their wings when flying fast, they only do so when flying at slower speed. This how they preserve energy, by keeping up to speed. In the scripture, God tells us that if we and when we wait on Him, we would ‘mount up with wings like eagles’.

God wants us to have clear focus, a clear vision of what is ahead of us and where we are headed, and to keep momentum. Remember, Eagles save energy performing at top speed. If they slow down momentum, they must flap their wings, which takes up their energy. So don’t slow down! Be mindful of what you give your energy to; if it slows you down, then it has got to go.

Eagles also have to eat, right? They do, they usually carry their prey in flight, or their baby eagles, not more than they can carry. They actually snatch their preys with their feet, not their beak, which is pretty interesting. But they can only carry a few pounds while in flight, otherwise they get weighed down! As far as observation claims, they enjoy their lives as eagles. They chase each other in the air, they tumble and roll on the ground seemingly for fun and they are often seen swimming too. Side note: Eagles know how to enjoy being eagles, we should enjoy being people. One last thing: Eagles are not prey! They die illegally, because of things like electric power lines, vehicle strikes, lead poisoning, drowning in stock tanks, illegal shootings, etc. This reminded that God is the law, and not even Satan can decide when anyone can die.

Remember Job? Satan asked God to attack Job, and God said (paraphrased) “you can do anything to Job, except you will not take his life.”

Moral of the story: As you wait on God you don’t have a need to look back, you don’t need to carry extra things which you have no business carrying (mind your own business), and preserve your energy by going at full speed in direction of your clear vision.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, you are awesome, thank you for your restoration and wisdom. I thank you for each person reading this, I ask that you bless their weary hearts and minds, and bodies; those waiting for answers, hearings, finances, employments, new opportunities, homes, friendships, marriage and anything else- may they receive new strengths to continue believing that they are not waiting in vain. Give us all new strengths to continue this thing called life. I pray each person desires to love others more, to receive love more, to give of themselves more, to value themselves more, but above all to desire their own individual life more. May we not live for moments that come and go, but live in the knowledge and understanding that you love us unconditionally and have the best plan for our lives despite of what we feel with our five senses. May we have clear vision of of our calling, our dreams and goals, and may we set aside every weight and sin that slows us down. May we be like children, with trusting hearts towards their parents; may we continue seeking you and may we go after you at full speed. In the matchless name of Jesus. Amen.
