When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. James 4:3
God will give you anything, as long as you understand that He is the primary and not the secondary.
I have learned about God and His giving is that He expects us to be content and grateful with what we have. I was going through a challenging time, last year where I learned that I stopped being grateful along the way. I didn’t realize it until one of my friends who was in the same complaining boat as me, would get on my nerves. In my head I only thought, “man this girl is so selfish, she is so entitled, who does she think she is“, and one day while I was in the shower, after having a miserable energy draining day- it dawned on me- I was starting to act just like my friend! The truth is that being ungrateful and having a demanding attitude of entitlement is one of the ugliest traits in a person because it is PRIDE (self-centeredness). God does not give to the proud, so by all means I began to humble myself. So I started to work on that skill, yes, it’s an acquired skill- human beings are ungrateful!!! This is a popular spiritual truths even in the secular world, like in the law of attraction, similar to the bible’s faith is: if we are grateful, and express thanks, then we attract what we are thankful for. Faith is the substance of what is not seen, but the conviction of that which we hope for. (Hebrews 11:1) If we praise God for the victory, in advance, we do so by faith because we don’t see anything yet we believe God is working on our side.
- Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
And He also requires that we release the old, so He can give us the new. God likes to keep things in private. I have noticed that God, often reveals information about others and asks that I keep it between us. He simply wants me to intercede, not to interrupt His work. When we are willing to release the hold we have on things dear to us, whether people, positions, things or thought patterns- then He can give you something better. There is nothing wrong with having desires, and setting goals according to our hopes for our futures. But after planning, we still have to say, “Lord, not my will, but Your will be done.”
- Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine. Luke 22:42
Closed doors are exhausting, emotionally and it affects us physically at times. Closed doors aren’t easy to accept but God knows why he does that. God is for us, God loves me and He knows what He is doing even though our mind tells us different. I have learned that in order to receive blessings from God, we have to know WHAT we are praying for, WHY we want it and we have to be willing to WAIT.
- And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it. John 14:13-14
I remember crying out to God last year around May, while I was in a small Thursday retreat at church. I remember I was broken, I had lost my job and was set to graduate with my bachelors, but I had lost all joy. I remember a few things happened in my mother’s house, which had me a breaking point. I prayed to God, and cried out for an apartment because I couldn’t do that any longer. Even if I had no job and no money, even if it seemed that my family was not saved, I needed my apartment and my privacy, I needed peace to focus on my calling. This was not the first time I had prayed for my apartment, I had about 7 years praying and God would say “NO” but this time I received my apartment.
I WAITED about 7 months after that, but when I look back at it now- I KNOW THAT WAS THE DAY I RECEIVED MY APARTMENT.
Lord Jesus, you are a good and sovereign God. You have awesome plans to give us hope, and to prosper us. You have the details of our lives in your book, and you have joy waiting for us as we walk in your purpose. I pray for spiritual strength and mental awakening for my brothers and sisters who are praying and feel as if they are praying to a wall. I pray for your tender mercies to visit us, and remind us of your unfailing love. I know you are a present help in time of need, and that you listen to our every word, every tear and every thought. Your sovereignty is ready to heal our broken places, because you work all things for good to those who love you and are called according to your purpose. I pray for your miracles of healing to come as gifts and surprises. In Jesus name, Amen.
