I cannot make you stand firm, if your faith is not firm. Isaiah 7:9
The enemy will try to limit your prayers, because your praying will limit him.
I believe it was last summer when God told me, change your prayer. I had not realized that I was always asking God to sustain me. This sounds like: “God keep me from falling, God I’m sorry make me stronger, God take away this and that (so I can be better), God give me this and that (so I can be happy), God change this person (because they make me miserable), God I can’t do this please help me, God take away fear, etc…”. These types of prayers sounds like complaining and pity parties to God’s ears! God wanted me to be thankful: to express gratitude and praise Him. We have so much to be thankful for, yet we push this aside remaining focused on our wants and desires, our “success” and even by being concerned with other people’s lives. I started changing my prayer to expressing gratitude for the things I had and experienced, and for those things which I believed God would do and give me. It was hard at times, but I managed to push through because I was retraining my mind according to God’s will. People often say, I don’t know God’s will for my life. He doesn’t talk to me, how He talks to you Frances. But what if I told His word talks to us, EVERY SINGLE TIME we read it.
Let’s pray God tells us in His word to be thankful! He tells us that our mouth should be full of praise. He says that He wills for us to live a content and happy life. He says we were created for His name to be glorified. He says that we should keep our eyes on the author and finisher of our faith. He says that we should walk by faith, and not by what we see. He says that we are to think of things that are good, honorable and praiseworthy. he says we should walk in love! If we give ourselves to God’s word, we will be fulfilling His will in our lives. And guess what? Before you know it, you are leading a ministry or excelling in a secular arena spreading the gospel for God’s glory.
God is not that complicated. God supplies our every need, but have you ever given so much to a person or a job and they scolded you as if you did not. God cares about our well being, from our finances, to the clothes we wear, our jobs and so much more. But God also wants us to be emotional, and mentally healthy. Part of emotional and mental health, is seeing things from a correct perspective. Have you ever noticed the things we take for granted. Are you ever grateful from clean, running water in your home? Are you ever grateful that you can walk, talk, see or hear? Are you ever grateful to have family, friends or a pet? Or are you so focused on the negatives that you cannot even see the blessings before you on the daily? Instead of stressing about having to work a 40 hour week, be grateful that you are able to eat everyday. Instead of saying nobody loves me, go find somebody to shower with love: a friend, a neighbor, a sick person in the hospital, a pet, or a senior in a home. As I always say, it’s all about your mentality. If you cannot change it on your own, ask god to help you and He will.
Father God, thank you for your shifts and your grace. I thank you for your attention to us. I bless your throne, for giving me the power through your holy spirit to break free from so much, including that critical, bitter and complaining spirit. I pray for those going through this, and I pray you give them a revelation in this area. And that they would work towards changing their minds with the help of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.
