Devotional 11/4

You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 1 Thessalonians 5:5

We are called to be world changers, not world chasers.

I suffer a lot because I hate seeing souls suffer, and I get mad at God because I shouldn’t feel the burden for souls in the way I do. But the good about this burden is that it helps me see that I could have been, still would be, one of those lost souls that I see. I see people tired, exhausted and beat from life and its worries, from work, from stress, from brokenness, from unfulfilled dreams, goals and expectations- and I  feel their pains.

Why cant we just be happy? Why cant we just have joy and peace? Why is there so much hate, sickness, disappointment and suffering in this world? Drugs, sex, dancing, traveling, money- why do these things not suffice? Why do our souls desire more? Why search so hard, to be happy?

The gospel is the good news of Christ, that He came to die for our sins. He came to erase our shame, to heal our hearts and to set us free from anything that has power over us (fear, addiction, compulsive disorders, etc). And God sent His son to give us a new name, and restore our identity. before sin, we were perfect. We were joyful, and connected to God 100%; but sin broke us apart and broke us down. Now, Jesus is the mediator bringing us together to the Father. So that we could be reconciled with God, so that we could have peace with God. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil- every generational curse is broken, all mind control is destroyed, all unrighteousness is set straight, all confusion becomes peace, all sickness is healed, everything that was destroyed is restored.

  • bring back (a previous right, practice, custom, or situation); reinstate; reinstall, re-establish.
  • repair or renovate (a building, work of art, vehicle, etc.) so as to return it to its original condition; rehabilitate, rebuild, reconstruct, recreate, redevelop, refurbish, recondition
  • return (someone or something) to a former condition, place, or position.

When we decide to follow Jesus- we battle with weaknesses and desires, and suffer pains just like the next human being! We are not immediately made perfect, and this is why people leave church because they assume that Christians are perfect, while there is no such thing. But God is the helper, the most excellent teacher and life coach, as well as the mighty counselor and strategist. I have known God to comfort me, to counsel me and to lifts my hands when I can’t take it anymore. As Christians, we have refuge in God.

We do not have to be like the world, in their secret pain and unhealed issues, and hopeless logic, running to this and that for some type of fix: we can be naked before God. We have peace, not anxiety. We have hope, not depression. We have purpose, not an unintentional monotonous life. We have God, not the world. I am so grateful to be a child of God. Sometimes as holy spirit filled believers we don’t realize how blessed we are for God’s salvation. We are children of the day, not of the night. I am not perfect, and certainly do not have it all together but I am SO thankful that God changed me and is still working on me. I was thinking these things, during Halloween, it always reminds me of how blessed I am to be a child of the day.

Let’s pray:

Thank you Lord, for bringing people into my life. I know that each person you bring to me, even if just for 5 minutes is to know of you and your great love for them. I ask you today to increase my wisdom and grace to share to love with those who are broken, or saddened, and those who are fearful. I pray you would bring refreshing and confidence into their souls. In Jesus name, Amen.
