Devotional 1/1

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.”Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. James 4:13-16

Enjoy the journey of this new year, welcome 2018

It is good to have dreams, and make plans … but God says in his word that we should not boast in saying this tomorrow or the other, because we do not know what will be of our life tomorrow. Not that it is evil to make plans or set goals, but it is evil to boast and undermine God. I only make a call to reflect, to pray to follow the will and time of God. Let’s humble ourselves. Humility for God is great! God knows the intentions and the most intimate desires of our heart, but He does not make illegal acts in the earth. By illegal, I mean, God does not trespass our will.

It also says the word that man makes plans, but God is the one who directs his steps. And sometimes, God gives us the freedom, or better yet the release to make our own plans and face our own consequences. See God is not a dictator, He warns us just like our parents do, He advises us how our friends should but He also lets us be. The bible says, in a more extreme matter of course, that He leaves some to a reprobate mind if we ignore Him and remain in Him. It is similar in matters of His will for our lives. We should humble ourselves to seek the God of strategy and direction, for the next steps of our journey.

It is not good to simply lay around hoping and wishing, neither is it okay to tell God do whatever you want, because I know you will do it anyhow. That is not true, God only moves where He is invited. When you open your heart to God, and open your mouth to speak to Him… anything you say, God will take it into consideration. Because God is the beginning and the end, He knows why He created you, when you would do certain things and He knows when to end seasons. This why some people come into our lives, we make plans… but we tend to forget that our plans are limited compared to God’s plans. Sometimes God will treat us in what seems a forceful way, but He is simply trying to have you transition into new beginnings. Some people receive a word from God, have it CONFIRMED through another person, and even dream about it; but they will not act, until God allows a forceful situation to make them move and get the hint. It’s time to MOVE forward, it’s time for transition. God also works in mercy, this is when we do not receive the punishment we deserve. This is always great, even if sometimes it seems unfair during the journey.

Why pray if God is still going to do what He wants? Can you imagine having best friends, but never talk to him? In ways we can’t fully understand, God uses our prayers to bring His will into the world. He actually uses our faith, to bring results into our lives, and the world around us.

Let’s pray:

Thank you Lord Jesus, thank you for allowing us to see a new year and to make it through this previous year. I thank you for your love for me, your patience with me and your specific attention to me. I ask you for fresh revelation and understanding on the privilege you gave us to pray. I believe this year will be a powerful year, for believers around the world. In Jesus name, Amen.
