Devotional 1/7

For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10

Often His call is to follow in paths we would not have chosen.
Amy Carmichael

When God says that He gives us the desires of our hearts, when we delight in Him. Our dreams are always too small when compared to the dreams God has planned for each of us. But as we delight in God, we grow in God, we commune with God and as His friend we are no longer servants, so He tells us what the Father says. Holy Spirit downloads God’s pre-destined plans for our lives into our hearts. And it is then for us to bring these good works to life.

If someone had come to me in my teen years and told me that I would be serving God, or spreading the gospel I would have rolled my eyes and vowed to never speak to them again. See, I was bad; promiscuous, bisexual, vindictive, manipulative, impulsive and I was a liar, a thief, and pretty violent. I was into drugs, crazy parties including alcohol and sexual dancing. I was also very loving, but I am not sure if my love was ever unconditional, or free. I exchanged things for love, like my body, or my money to feel loved in return. it was like I bought love, somewhere in my mind I thought sex would guarantee somebody loving me. I also used money to ensure love, or company; learned that from my home life as a child. And then I met Jesus, I am still a giver but I do not give to earn love, I give because I know what it is to have needs. I also give my body, but for the glory of God.

If someone affirmed my desires to be an entertainer when I was a child, I would have given my talents to the world and I am certain I would have been exploited by Satan. I would have never imagined that God would resurrect my shattered dreams, and raise me up as a director, a writer, a singer, an actress, a dancer or choreographer for His kingdom.

God does not expect much from you, except for our lives to be filled of good works that point people towards Him. He only wants people He can use!

Let’s Pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you for your love and instruction. Forgive us for our slackness, our complaints and our hesitancy. I pray you would helps us all, be open to receive Your instruction. Since You created us with a purpose and plans for our lives, please re-align our thoughts and hearts to be parallel to your dreams. May we discern when we are or are not glorifying you, refocus our attention to recognize our assignments and to be firm in our walk towards destiny. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
