Devotional 2/19

We have all these great people around us as examples. Their lives tell us what faith means. So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit. We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall. Hebrews 12:1

We all carry these things inside that no one else can see. They hold us down like anchors, they down us out at sea.

Weights that make it hard for us to run the race towards God. Imagine running a 5K mile race, and having a 150 pound bag tied to your waist, or worse yet, to your feet. This is what the writer of Hebrews meant when speaking about getting rid of weights in our lives. Even people can become dead weight, pulling them along as you try to make it to the finish line- only sets up the scene for collapse from exhaustion. Other dead weights are bad habits, lack of forgiveness, and things which we entertain (what we see and what we listen to). The issue with these things is that they are in our control; we only need self control, faith and deep convictions. Weight is different from sin, which is why the writer says to remove the dead weight which makes it hard to run, and to also remove the sin from our lives, which continue to make us fall.Related image

Imagine running this race, and you are close to the finish line… but something happens and you fall flat on your face. What happened? You tripped over your self. This is how sin is in our lives: sin keeps us falling, and breaking our connection with God. Every time we sin, we are being carnal: sensual: natural and not SPIRITUAL (God is SPIRIT, remember). We do not need to over-complicate sin. Yes, we are all human… yes, we all sin.. but yes, we also have a choice. And that is the issue with sin, we choose to do wrong and reject God. God is against idolatry, sexual immorality and choosing to do wrong, when we already know the right thing to do. For instance, a curse word or a white lie are things to be considered a mistake, but nobody has sex by mistake. The funny thing about this all, is that we can try box sin into one category but Satan will bust the walls down and blemish our entire beings, as long as we give him the access. The bible says we are to keep our Spirit, Souls and Bodies blameless. So do not open doors to Satan. For example:

  1. Sins of the Spirit: blasphemy, rebellion, idolatry: anything that we trust in, rely on, depend on (WHERE DOES YOUR HELP COME FROM? The occult, horoscopes, a spouse, a relationship, your SELF, sex, etc.)
  2. Sins of the soul: hate, envy, wrath, self hate, vanity, pride/arrogance, greed, rebellion, etc.
  3. Sins of the body (flesh): physical indulgence: gluttony, sexual immorality (sex before marriage, homosexuality, pornography, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, having/making enemies, strife, jealousy, rivalries, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, etc.)

Pray for discernment, which means knowing what is of God and what is not!

Let’s pray:

Father God, I pray that You increase the gift of discernment over every life, so that we can all continue to grow in you as we listen clearly to the voice of your Holy Spirit. May we be single-hearted and single-minded for you. Lord please open our eyes to see your power, and let us receive the eyes and ears of your Spirit, to see and hear only that which you want us to receive. I thank you for granting even such access, and I pray we are able to see any spirit which has had access int our lives that has been hindering us to move forward in you. familiar spirits, deaf and dumb spirits, passivity, unbelief, condemnation, fear, unforgiveness, pride, shame, control, procrastination, victimization, legalism, rebellion, inferiority, double-mindedness, confusion, rejection, occult lust, insecurity, seduction, jealousy, envy, anger, unworthiness, sabotage, criticalness, wanting, helplessness, spirit of death, gossip, lying, slander, infirmity, manipulation, and whatever you bring to our attention God. Lord Jesus, any activities that have opened up our third eye to deceptive visions and even opened all the different chakras, I pray we confess and repent for these too. I ask that all the strategies of the enemy will be exposed by divine revelations to our spirit by way of your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.
