We know [for a fact] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] lies in the power of the evil one [opposing God and His precepts]. 1 John 5:19
Satan’s sin becomes the first sin of humanity: the sin of ingratitude. Adam and Eve were simply, painfully, ungrateful for what God gave. Our fall was, has always been… that we are not satisfied in God and what He gives. We hunger for something more, something other.
Satan attacks the children of God, according to the bible, those who have become sons through the Son Jesus Christ. The bible says no one can be born again, except through the Spirit- we are born as creations of God, but not everyone is a child of God. Have you noticed that it is okay to practice every religion in schools, in politics, in music… yet nobody can mention Jesus Christ because it is prohibited, ‘politically incorrect’. We can mention God, all day, yet the name of Jesus gets bleeped out. The world and its rulers acknowledge that true power stems from the supernatural, the unseen, the invisible, the spiritual. And the prince of this world, Satan, blinds the people from Jesus. He doesn’t mind if people worship Buddha, Muhammad, Shiva (the god of Yoga), trees, stones, animals and even the universe! He rather you claim to worship gold and silver, the elements of the sky (like the stars, and the moons) or nothing at all! Why is everything okay except for Jesus Christ?! Because Jesus has ALL power over him. Jesus Christ was given power and authority over Satan in heavenly places and on the earth.
The devil declared himself enemy of God, when his proposed to sit in the throne of the Creator God. He desired to be adored, and was not satisfied with his position as an angel. He is an enemy of all human kind, after offering Adam and Eve to become like God too. If the enemy can get you to become discontent with what God has given you… snap out of it!!!!
Satan is a powerful spiritual entity, who can “walk up and down in the earth” and who has command of demons to carry out his work. But please know, he is not like God: all knowing or present everywhere, at all times. He is limited, a fallen angel who wanted to be GOD himself.
I remember the story the Philistine God, Dagon, who was placed in God’s temple. The statue of Dagon, was knocked over time and time again, when in the presence of God (Ark of the covenant). God sent tumors, blisters and death to the Philistines who had the audacity to continue to put this statue in God’s presence. We need to recognize that God will not allow any devil to dwell in the midst of His children, who are indwelled with Holy Spirit. That is what happens when Jesus Christ comes into our lives: Holy Spirit is the the presence of God, and in the same is the spirit of Jesus Christ. It is not the praying saints which Satan avoids, but the presence of God in us and around us: who will knock him over and shame him publicly each time.
Lord Jesus, thank you for making us yours; we do not even deserve it. Yet you continue to love, pursue and protect us. I pray for your presence to continue to walk with us, mature us and teach us to war. I pray your presence becomes our greatest delight and desire. May your presence defeat all and any of the demons in our homes, workplaces and even those demons which oppress us. In the name which is above all names, JESUS! Amen!
