So you have not received a spirit that makes you slaves of fear. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. Romans 8:15-16
Your faith will not fail while God sustains it;
you are not strong enough to fall away while God is resolved to hold you.
I believe that the more we know God, the more powerful we become in battle against all giants- including those of fear. Fear works in a domino effect, and usually encloses us in a cycle. For example, if we are deceived by one person, we will fear being deceived by someone else, and possibly anyone else. In Christ we have no control of outcomes, so uncertainty can knock so loudly that we go into a frenzy of things called paranoia, panic, anxiety, stress, temper tantrums and so much more. So we need to think about what we are afraid of, and find what brings us to actually being afraid. Hesitancy is fear, doubt is a mask of fear, and pretentiousness too. I can think of many other things, but God tells DON’T FEAR. If God is sovereign and ruler over all things, including nature, death, the universe and the spiritual world- why be afraid?
Nothing can happen to us without God’s permission, so at God’s hand we will live according to His plan- which is always good. How is it always good if I’m sick, my kids passed away, or my parents abandoned me? God is good, He is still good when we go through negative things because He is using it to have a good turn of events. For example, I had an abortion at 18 and vowed I would never have an abortion again. When I was 21 I became pregnant again, except that I had a boyfriend while still sleeping with my ex (can I testify about being a dirty dog sinner?). Well before I could even think of much I had a miscarriage. It’s been 11 years now, and for years, I thought it was a negative experience, but today I can see how God worked it in my favor. All I know is that He spared me from certain things, according to a purpose I did not know about at the time. God’s providence was present for me. Only He knows why His mercy and providence met me during that time of my life.
- The protective care of God or of nature as a spiritual power
- Divine intervention
- Timely preparation for future eventualities
I also recognize I had made reckless mistakes in the past, believing I was free to do as I will- but I never considered the consequences. Until eventually they would catch up to me, and slap me in the face. So after I became a Christian, I fed on God’s word and developed a deep conviction to seek His will in everything; even down to my clothing. yes, it sounds radical- but I was radical in the world, how could I be lukewarm in Christ? Of course after a while, I realized God gave me free will for certain things and if He wanted me to wear a certain thing or a certain color, He would let me know- which He has and it is pretty cool. One time I thought I had nothing to wear for my birthday, and when I got off of a bus there was a pink dress folded on the benches of the bus stop. Another time God showed me a vision of an outfit to wear for a BBQ with my family, He told me to go to Old Navy. I was not working and had literally 4 dollars to my name, and when I went to the sales rack I saw the shirt I saw in the vision- the price said $3.62. When I went to the register it rang up to the exact amount I had. God knows all things.
Trusting God is not an overnight process, we cannot receive it by the laying of hands, but like every relationship- the more we get to know the other person the more we trust in their character. Fear is a human reaction to the many circumstances of life, living in fear is not of God. The word says that ‘PERFECT LOVE will cast out fear’. So when I am afraid, I think about God’s perfect love towards me. Knowing God’s nature, will free us from all fear. Being afraid is not a sin, but staying in that place of fear, is. God Is El Elyon, the Most High God; and fear is also a spirit, but a much smaller one than the Spirit of the Almighty God.
Father God, Lord of all. May we grow daily in trusting you with our present, and future. May we see how your goodness, mercy and forgiveness worked even in our past, and may we see the day like Joseph when we can proclaim- “the devil meant it for harm, BUT GOD He meant it for good!” In Jesus name, Amen.
