Devotional 3/4

For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:12-13

Have you ever considered God’s perspective?

Spiritual discernment is to know what is of God, what is not and when it is God’s time. To have discernment is to first and foremost know the Bible, because we need know how God thinks and acts. The Bible’s shows us how God thinks and acts, in the same way that we observe each other’s actions and conversations. Being led of the Holy Spirit, prophesying and discernment have the word of God as foundation, and as mirror and guide. The Bible is not a history book, or a story book even though it contains history and also stories! But it’s full of principles that we can apply to our lives even today.

The word of God is so powerful it beheads demonic lies. It heals our physical body and souls, it liberates our minds and  bodies. It purifies our spirit, and even judges our thoughts! God is not the author of confusion, so He quickly acts to bring us certainty and guidance. If we do not read the word of God, anyone can say something that sounds convincing and cause is inner turmoil. We need the word of God, even if those people look kind and gentle, even if they are Christian.

Spiritual discernment the Bible says is a gift of the spirit. Just like any gift, we know how to exercise it by rightly dividing the word of God. I can have the gift of prophecy, but if I do not know the word of God I can easily speak from my own opinion, imagination and hearsay! If a pastor does not know the word of God, He will be unable to correctly lead the flock to Jesus in holiness. I can have the gift of healing, but without knowing the word of God ; I run the risk of transferring spirits to myself and household; or even charging money to heal others in the name of Jesus. It sounds pretty unnecessary to push this, but you wouldn’t imagine the amount of people who do not read the Bible. Given the gift of discernment, Holy Spirit enables us to distinguish between God and flesh, God or darkness, right and wrong, good and perfect (yes, there is a difference), truth and lie, holy and ordinary.

I am only touching the surface, for the sake of time. Remember, we cannot make judgments based on our own wisdom: the Bible calls this sensual and wicked! We cannot lean on our own understanding, the Bible is so necessary.

Remember our knowledge is limited, our reasoning is faulty, but Gods word is infallible.

Lets pray:
Lord Jesus, thank you for your grace enabling us to grow and teach others. Im not wisdom, but you are. I pray for increased wisdom and discernment fur myself, and those reading this. I pray we would always have a teachable attitude. May we handle situations, and make decisions through your wisdom, and not our own. I pray for an awakening of this gifting in each person who has never acknowledged it, and a revival for those who stopped exercising it. In Jesus name, Amen.
