Devotional 4/26

In this world you will have trouble, but have faith, I have overcome the world. John 16:33

A belief is a filter that directs action.

The bible says if we allow ourselves to be like the world then we will not be transformed, and we will not be able to test and prove God’s will for our lives (Romans 12:2). And although much of this is preached in the context of the way we dress and the things we do, most people miss the truth. The truth is that we are what we think. We are what we believe, and sometimes what we believe is not the truth.

If we think that we are unattractive and need to do something about appearance to attract attention, then we will wear tons of make up and dress provocatively. We are what we think. If we think that we are unlovable, we will act like we are. But if we believe that we are children of God, then we will act like we are loved by the father of lights, Jehovah. Taking an introspective look into my lifestyle, I have been able to identity that my thought life is strong in certain areas but also in error in other areas. For instance, I believe I am a strong woman and that I’m in control of my life, so I must mother myself and second is that I believe in God’s Almighty power, infinite knowledge and that He loves me with a perfect love (therefore wants the best for me). This way of thinking make me tenacious. To be tenacious means to keep a firm hold of something, to be determined, and to be persistent. And so these two beliefs play out into my life style: being tenacious enables me to: See the source image

  • Get back up, when I fall
  • Do what it takes to walk away & avoid triggers that would cause me to sin
  • To push past pain, offense or anger
  • Be bold, and act courageously towards God’s call for my life
  • To seek balance, when I overwhelmed or over worked (self care)

We are to be renewed in the spirit of our minds! We are to believe what God says about Himself, and about us- not like world… the world believes in vanity (extremism in looks and social status), promiscuity & homosexuality, materialism, abortion, suicide (euthanasia), competition, gossip, and even vengeance, amongst many, so many other things. Identity your beliefs, and see what kind of behavior they are producing in your life. Do you believe God loves you with a perfect love and in the most perfect way? Do you love yourself enough to actually care about your entire being (mind, emotions, body, finances, dreams)? It may seem silly to do this, but I believe that we block and sabotage ourselves. It is not the devil giving us a hard time, just like God, he works with what is available to him!!

These are just general observations, not every case is like this: What do suicidal people think about? They may believe they are a problem, that nobody loves them, or that they will never be happy… so why keep pushing? What do promiscuous men and women think about? They believe that to be desired means they are loved, or are significant, so they will get it by sharing their bodies… anybody? Why do people lose their fortunes? They believe they have needs, not wants, and spend all their money on it; they may believe that they are entitled, and therefore refuse to work; or may even be extremely emotional and fill their voids by spending on others and/or themselves to feel better?

Every decision is based on what YOU believe, and it gets you to your future. Every decision you make, takes to where you are right now. If you don’t like what is happening to you… it is happening because of your beliefs.

Let’s pray:

Father God, Remove all the veils, so that we may see what is really happening in our lives and not be intoxicated by our stories nor our fears. In the matchless, incomparable and all powerful name of Jesus The Christ. Amen.
