Devotional 5/23

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13

Hope in things= Distracted
Hope in people= Disappointed
Hope in myself= Devastated
Hope in Christ= Delivered

God is not trying to kill us in the physical, instead He is trying to remold us in the spiritual. God tests our faith because as I have mentioned in previous posts, this produces perseverance and spiritual maturity. Truth be told, God is after our complete surrender. Surrender is to deny our flesh, and put ourselves second to everyone, every single day and in every moment. We can claim that God comes first but the truth is that in the back of our minds we suffer because it hurts to put yourself second, it hurts to deny yourself all the time. God’s desire is to use us in this world- and to bring us enjoyment and satisfaction as we do so. God has things lined up for us to enjoy life and experience pleasure in the things we are called to do, although we may not be there yet He has a recompense.

If we meditate on the word of God, we find biblical personalities who demonstrated steadfast faith. Despite of their realities, we can be comforted in knowing that all people of faith also push to live by faith. The bible says that against all hope, Abraham believed in hope (Romans 4:18). See the source image

It was a long shot that Abraham would become a father of many nations, when he did not even have one child, inclusive he and his wife were not in the age range where baby making was possible; but he believed God. He was even obedient when God asked him to sacrifice his promised child; he still believed he would be a father of many nations. With or without a child, Abraham would be a father of many nations because God said so: this is to believe in hope, even against hope.

Do not lose hope in God and start looking for reasonable or logical ways to work things out. The bible says that human wisdom is devilish (James 3:15). Sometimes we can’t see God working towards our deliverance, or in that situation we have been praying about for so long… but God is faithful. Instead of letting the trials, our circumstances and feelings overcome our faith, we must refocus our energy to ask God for wisdom and fresh revelations of His character. God gives us the wisdom we need to handle situations and to grow from them. Becoming steadfast in the faith takes time, convictions are cultivated like plants. The more we feed ourselves with the word of God, prayer, fasting and spending time with God we grow in experience.

Let’s pray:

Lord God, I know you will answer our prayers! All of them, you will answer us when we call for strength, for deliverance, and for healing. You said if we delight in you, you would give us the desires of our hearts; so I ask you to give us the desires of our hearts. Take the chains off us, and remove all lies from our midst. I pray your increase our faith so that we may be obedient to your call and leading. And I pray for more trust so that we may be bold in taking leaps of faith, and succeeding in the new positions and assignments you have placed in our hands. I pray for wisdom for us to get over, get through and deal with any turbulent, frustrating or confusing situations in our lives. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
