Devotional 6/27

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

The gospel is so simple that children can understand it, and it is so profound that the studies from wisest theologians will never exhaust its riches.

The New Testament is not a new bible, it is the fulfillment of the OT. The gospel was presented in the Old Testament by those under the influence of the Holy Spirit: the prophets and the scribes. The OT was telling people the good news to come: God would make Himself human, to then die on our behalf in order to pay the debt we owed for our wrongs. God had a plan to snatch His people from the world and from Satan’s grip. He planned to forgive us, and to restore us. To know the God of the universe forgives us personally is beyond what our hearts can conceive. We are accepted by God when we are in Christ. And this was His plan all along.

The gospel is different, in that it is powerful and almost inexplicable. There is power in preaching the gospel, and it is an instantaneous work done by God in the soul and spirit of each individual. The blood of Jesus has power, and everything is subjected to the authority of Christ. So the transformation begins instantaneously! The heart must be fertile to receive, while the mind contemplates but the gospel is the power of God, unto salvation.

Salvation is a threefold event: present, past and future. It is a process. We are initially sealed, until the day of redemption… and then we are gradually sanctified. When we are without the fullness of the Spirit of God and not submitted to the Lordship of Christ we are open to many spirits (auras, energies, vibrations). And God will not dwell in such a place. Remember the Philistine god, Dagon?

I always recall coming to Christ and immediately discerning evil on posters, music, billboards, commercials and spirits working through people. I literally saw a new light. I had experienced epiphanies in the past, but this one was by far the greatest break I had ever experienced. God’s love began to open the wounds in my heart in order to heal them, and He gave me an amazing wisdom that I did not possess before truly receiving Him into my heart. He began to do a work in my heart, where the chains had to melt.

I had previously believed to have been a believer, but my faith was in many things including Jesus. Yet when I made Him my only Lord and Savior, things changed. Is there anything that you have also placed your faith in? This may be hindering God’s mighty power in you.

Let’s pray:

Lord God, may the gospel in our lives reignite our passion to minister to others. Your word says that those who seek souls to save are wise. Make us wiser, Jesus. We thank you for salvation, for it is by undeserved love, mercy and favor that we are saved. We did not choose you, you chose us. And we are able to love, because you loved us first. I pray for our desires for godliness and the kingdom of heaven in our hearts to be rekindled. May we each seek souls to save wherever you place us, be it a job, a neighborhood, or even a supermarket. In Jesus name, Amen.
