Devotional 7/24

“What is your request?” he asked. She replied, “In your Kingdom, please let my two sons sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.” But Jesus answered by saying to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink?” “Oh yes,” they replied, “we are able!” Matthew 20:21-22

Be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it.

If we cant turn back and surrender to the life we’ve been called to, then we are going to delay and possibly forfeit all that God has planned for us. Things that seem most pleasurable, things we may have possibly long awaited for and things which require little effort tend to be the very things which Satan used to derail us from purpose. When things are easy we can forget that Gods calling and purpose requires a cost. There is a price to be paid: denying our selves and second, we must carry our cross.

Throughout His life Jesus the Christ put His plans and desires in order to serve those He was called to serve. His own people rejected Him, those He helped followed Him because of what they could get from Him and others followed Him without recognizing that He was God in the flesh. As a human being the Lord Jesus may have desired recognition, praise, relationship and even help from others. But He understood He was sent by God, and His duty was to be about His father’s business.

In order to finish the work He was sent to fulfill, the lord had to give up His will, which is the cross He carried. On the way to Calvary, the Lord Jesus suffered for us, He drank the bitter cup of suffering. He was bruised, beaten, ridiculed and crucified for us. Are we able to drink of the bitter cup? The mother in the scriptures, had good intentions she was looking over her kids future and wellbeing. But she, like many of us, are not aware of the sorrow and affliction intertwined with the joy and blessing it is to serve the Almighty God.

We all intend and aspire to enter the kingdom of Heaven, and walk in the kingdom of God in earth, but it is a path of suffering. We may imagine pleasure and happiness, and enjoying Gods favor and power but in this world Jesus warned us that we would have trouble!

Can we give up our self and join Christ love to help humanity, even if they only use us, ridicule us, reject us and even hate us? Will we carry our cross and reach the end of with a faithfulness towards God, despite trials and demonic attacks?

The book Perfect Lies: Overcoming Nine Hidden Beliefs That Stand between You and a Healthy, Joy-Filled Life helped me reprogram my mind, back in 2015. Hope it blesses you!

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, you have died and resurrected to give us a life of abundance and a life of eternity. You sacrificed your desires, for the desires of Father God. And you carried your cross, despite of the physical and spiritual pains you endured. We thank you. May you help us all die to our flesh, and carry our cross keeping our eyes focused on you; the author and finisher of our faith. May you complete the work you started in us, in Jesus name, Amen.
