Devotional 8/4

But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
Matthew 6:6

Let us study well what is shown of the frame of mind in which our prayers are to be offered, and learn daily from Christ how to pray.
Matthew Henry

We will inevitably struggle in our relationship with God. As believers we battle with our flesh, satanic spirits (principalities and powers), satanic opposition and unforgiveness. And we tend to struggle with God, because we recognize He is holy and just but forget that He is also our eternal father. Being a Christian means we have changed our ways (repented) by our own decision and with God’s help and His power. If I choose to sin it’s like being rebellious to God. It’s not a mistake, when it becomes a habit or in other words, when we keep doing it; and this separates us from God.Image result for sin crouches at your door

God has created us anew, He has reset us. He changed our hearts from stone to hearts of flesh. The Lord put a new Spirit within us, and has begun a good work in us. Although church pushes the righteous and holy life agenda, God wants us to know grace and paradigm shifts. We must reprogram our minds in order to successfully endure and persevere in this walk.

God has reset us, in the sense that we are new creatures. We may have the same personality, but our desires begin to change, and our character is cultivated. We go from knowing of God, to becoming His children and He our Father. The issue with a growing believer is the unexpected falls, the mistakes, and the sin that crouches at our doors.

Crouch: to lean forward with your head and shoulders bent, especially in order to get closer to something.

If we get so wrapped up in our failures, our desires and the temptations tugging at our hearts, we will become sin conscious rather than love conscious. This becomes the illusion which the enemy can use against us to separate us from God. We must accept that certain desires, and emotions we have memorized will be in our lives until we reprogram our thoughts. When we focus on God’s love, and His power, we can internalize that He is willing to keep us from evil and to love us back into restoration. We will become the thing that we think about!

The book Perfect Lies: Overcoming Nine Hidden Beliefs That Stand between You and a Healthy, Joy-Filled Life helped me reprogram my mind, back in 2015. Hope it blesses you!

Let’s pray:

Father God, eternal and good father. I come into your presence knowing that you want us to grow in confidence towards you, your desire is that we trust you and rely on your character. We are aware of our humanity and the demonic agenda set against us, but today I ask you to flood us with your love. May we know you as the Father that you are. The father who loves, who mends and the God who corrects. I thank you that your love is perfect, and has no human comparison. Your love follows us wherever we are, wherever we hide and however we feel. You are with us both on the hills of victory, and also in the valleys of fear, may we love you more. May you teach us to know you are Abba father, even more than we have experienced in the past. May we rest in your perfect love towards us, walking in security as your little sons and daughters, In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.
