Devotional 8/18

The Lord is pleased by those who worship Him and trust His love. Psalm 147:11

Most of the mistakes in thinking are inadequacies of perception rather than mistakes of logic.

Edward de Bono

Have you noticed that 9 of 10 times you are your own worst enemy? Why do you react to things in the way you do? Are your fears logical or imaginary? Do you undermine your own strength? Do you actually believe God is, who He says He is? We can be defensive, even when people do not intend to attack (or offend) us. We can overthink things to the point we panic, get angry or become tense! And we also act foolishly depending on what tickles our fancy that particular day. This is where most of us are: in a fallen state. And after we’ve blamed the devil, the haters, and our loved ones- we realize: it’s me, why am I doing this to myself?

Some people are transformed in certain areas from one day to the next: while others like myself undergo years of processing in maturation, deliverance and chastening in those same ‘certain areas’. Only God and I know my history: as is the same for you! God works differently with each individual: we are all unique. Our times are simply in God’s hands, He has an agenda.

The love of God is not a feeling we feel or experience: it is a conviction we live by. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit has shed His love and hope into our hearts, and by His doing we can walk in accordance to God’s word and power. It is not something we have earned, can boast about, or even be able to predict or measure. It is purely by grace that He has called us unto Him. The Lord wants to take our inadequate, corrupted, limited and confusing lives to build Himself a platform where people can see His goodness, power and grace. God wants those around you, to see Him through you.

We sit on chairs, because we believe they can hold our weight. We cross the street when the light signals walk, because we believe it is safe to do so. We obey the law because we believe it is a way to avoid fines, and imprisonment. So why do we question God, when we hit some obstacles and setback? Why are we afraid when God says speak my word? Why do we shy away from doing what God asks us to do? Why do we do we resist being who God says we are? It is impossible, not challenging, not difficult, not hard… but impossible to please God when we do not have faith.

You may say you believe God, but does your seem like it? Would God believe that you trust Him? How would you act if you believed that the All powerful God loves you?

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, Christ of Nazareth, savior of the world, great redeemer! May you help us, teach and train us to keep our eyes on you, the author and finisher of our faith! May we not look to the left nor to the right, as we continue this race. Thank you for giving us a break to catch our breath, and thank you for managing our lives. We can rely on you, because you know what is best for us. May we walk in the newness of Spirit. In Jesus name, Amen.
