Return, you backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Indeed we do come to You, for You are the Lord our God. Jeremiah 3:22
With every fall, comes divine invitation to rise again.
As I mentioned yesterday, God is always right behind us waiting for us with open arms. Rejecting God is a heart condition, so in order to return to God we must humble ourselves and ask/allow God to change our hearts- and in many cases depending how far off we are, He causes our hearts to change! For example, the Lord allowed Hosea’s wife to endure grief and caused impediments in her life to get her mind and heart back. God is the same with us, He will orchestrate situations to bring us back to Him.
Sin and rebellion are fruits of stubbornness, which is essentially pride. I remember reading the book of Hosea, before hardening my heart towards God, and my heart ached for the mere fact that God strives with us, He does not give up on us.
Deciding to return to God, is very difficult for most, because Satan will do anything to keep us away from God and His perfect Devil killing plans. But returning to God is never a long process.
Falling away happens gradually. We may not realize it, but it’s like taking steps down a staircase: eventually you will get to the bottom of the stairs. The good thing about a staircase, is like our spiritual lives, we are always able to change direction! Returning to God is by decision: it is sudden, like waking up from sleep! We simply change directions, like deciding to walk back up the stairs… we will not get to the top of the stairs in one step… remember, restoration is gradual as was falling away. But once that decision is made in your heart, and then in your mind- then God is able to help you get back up!
We must know that God is love, and His desire is never to abandon us- but those of reprobate mind, who knowingly reject God, are unfortunately abandoned by God as well. It is possible to lose conscience and conviction: become a reprobate. This happens to the person who sins willingly and perpetually, eventually losing their sensitivity to wrongdoing. Don’t let that be you!
Come before God, and allow Him to embrace you again, just like He did to the Prodigal son (Luke 15).
Father God, Lord of heaven, and of all the earth. We praise you for your unchanging character, you benevolence and mercy towards us and for making our crooked paths straight. I pray for those who have been feeling indifferent towards spiritual things, like attending church services, praying, and reading your word. I pray you would help each person see where they may be slacking, and free them from condemnation of their actions. I pray for those relationships which are being stretched, because of wanting to run from the rebuke and/or confrontation from the Holy Spirit. And I pray you give each person a new sense of their purpose and joy for life. In Jesus name, Amen.
