Devotional 10/7

And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:4

I mean, you know, God knows everything, but I’m not quite that good. Every once in a while, something will slip by me.
Bob Schieffer

Growing in Christ requires self control to the 100th degree! We must limit our distractions, our pleasures and very thought life. (For those who think that pleasure should not be controlled, try overeating and aww how it goes for you… try sexing without control, then talk to me… and finally I believe that our discernment has to be submitted to God, and His scriptures. There are many people making judgements yet claiming that God revealed. God didn’t reveal, your flesh concluded.

I have spent many years crying over the spilled milk as they say, without rejoicing in the fact that God was the one who turned the cup or shook the table. If God allowed it it’s for a good reason, if He broke it, He will also fix it… I have always comforted myself in knowing that ALL things work for my good. And yes even when things hurt. But I was not as encouraging to myself, when it came to my own timeline.

You see I had a timeline. Once I graduate, I’ll get this job. Once I get this job, I’ll get this apartment. Once I get that apartment, then I’ll get a car. And then I’ll get married and have a few kids. But the Psalmist David, says “Lord my times are in your hands” (Psalm 31:15). And when we really believe that, then we won’t be emotional rollercoasters at the mercy of Satan’s manipulation.

As mature believers in Christ, it doesn’t matter how much word you can memorize if you cannot apply it to your own life. We must accept suffering, simply because God tells us that we will suffer. We will die, eventually… and if it happens when we will like to live, it will still inevitably happen. We can learn from Job: Satan does not take people’s lives, God gives life and He takes away. Mature believers want to go to heaven, but they also desire the entire world to get to heaven as well. Mature believers do not evangelize to please people, or fulfill ministry duties: they go after souls.

As mature believers, we discipline ourselves to spend time with God. Not of obligation, but from recognition: we recognize we cannot do a thing apart from God, we are not wise, we are limited, and prone to mistakes. I also will push to you all, that a mature believers listens! They don’t teach this in church, but God speaks in an audible, in our hearts, through visions, and even in the small, still voice of the Holy Spirit.

I say all this to say, that we must all accept the will of God for what it is, even when it hurts. In the end all that matters is that this life is temporary, and one day we will be in heaven without social bonds like husband, wife, mom, dad, rich or poor. All we will have is eternity to live with the Lord, so why not start here on earth?

Let’s pray:

Lord God, today I ask that you give us all capacity to accept your will as it is. I pray for strength and wisdom, and humility to serve you with joy at all times. In Jesus name, Amen.
