I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve. Jeremiah 17:10
There’s no testimony, without the test.
God tests everyone in many different ways. We can use tests to evaluate where we are, and where we need help. And God uses tests to try our hearts, and develop perseverance in us. A friend of mine said yesterday, ‘without tests, there is no evaluation: if there is no evaluation- then there’s no promotion’.
Just like fire tests gold, and silver: God tests our hearts and makes us fireproof (Proverbs 17:3). Our faith is strengthened as we pass the tests that God challenges us with, and our spiritual stamina increases. Jesus told his disciples that trials can cause some who have received God’s word, lose what they received (Matthew 13). But if we persevere, we will surely see God’s faithfulness: for He gives us what we deserve.
The tests of God can try us in different ways:
- through grievances, irritations or annoyances (testing our character: patience, mercy, love, etc.)
- by afflictions (disease, trouble, hardship, etc.)
- Attacks from Satan (demonic assignments like those with Job, The Gadarene (Legion) or those afflicted with spirits of infirmity in the Gospels, etc.).
I appreciate 1st Corinthians 3:13, because it says that one day our work will be tested by fire. Our work for the Lord depends on the quality of our heart, our dedication and preparedness. It means nothing to look good on the outside, or have fancy and eloquent speaking techniques if our lives are not founded on the light of the scriptures.
Last night I was talking to a sister in the Lord, and she shared with me that she feels used by the church and slighted from actually serving the Lord. As I encouraged her, I shared my own experience with going through this and how I observed certain people participate in different leadership positions, even preaching because of proper speaking skills and godly appearance. I reminded her, that God is faithful. And as long as we let Him use us, in His time He will exalt and reward us because He knows what we deserve. The devil may try to make you feel unwanted, underappreciated or slighted: but remember it was GOD who CALLED and APPOINTED YOU!
It is all part of God’s school, pass the test and get to the next level! You can do it!
Lord God, today I present to you my brothers and sisters who are going through different situations which you have allowed to test them in specific areas. I pray that each of us may grow through these tests, and not take offense in what you allow to purge and prune us into who you have created and called us to be. I ask you to give us boldness to continue to declare your truth, and I pray a hedge of protection around each of us so that Satan could not prevail. Thank you for giving us a Spirit of love, Power and a Sound mind. In Jesus name, Amen.
