Devotional 11/12

… and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God. 2 Chronicles 5:14

“The Seven Social Sins are:
Wealth without work.
Pleasure without conscience.
Knowledge without character.
Commerce without morality.
Science without humanity.
Worship without sacrifice.
Politics without principle.

Frederick Lewis Donaldson

One of the things that has become so real to me over the past years, is that worship is personal and it is also a sacrifice. Our worship depends on a choice to exalt God despite of our feelings, opinions or circumstances. Sometimes we don’t feel like worshipping. Sometimes life is heavy, or our emotions (or hormones) don’t get the memo.

True worship is not about singing songs, but about our desire to honor God. It is about exalting God, for who He is. See the source image
Exalt:

  • hold someone or something in very high regard; to think or speak very highly of;
  • Pay homage to, praise, glorify, magnify, esteem
  • To raise to a higher rank or a position of greater power
  • Make noble in character; dignify

I recognize that early in my walk, other than being new to demonstrative worship in the spirit filled churches; I was also very reserved towards God. My family expressed love to us, by doing and providing, more than words or affection, so I have been challenged to freely express love. I no longer blame my family for the way I was programmed, because I am totally convinced in our own capability to re-program ourselves. God is my Counselor and He is my Teacher!

Once I learned that God wanted me to acknowledge Him and to respond to Him: I began to serve Him. Things began to happen in my heart when I expressed to Him, who He was to me. I began to experiment with the word of God. Was God truly the God of the bible? I began telling God the scriptures which resonated with my relationship with Him: and He began to fill me with His presence. Praise brings God’s presence into our atmosphere, and it is why I spend time praising Him before going right into prayer.

Worship is to surrender our lives to the Lord. And to express our gratitude for who He is and what He has done. Worship is living a life which demonstrates that God is greater than any situation we face. When we magnify God, we tell the problems, our emotions and all the demons… that God is greater than all of that combined!

Today, use scriptures to fight Satan when He tries to bring doubt into your life! And instead of focusing on our feelings or battles, we focus on Him.

Let’s pray:

Lord God Almighty, we want to worship you in Spirit and in Truth, not just during devotional times. I pray for your Spirit to discipline us to spend time with you, and make our lives a living sacrifice. May we lead lives which magnify your deity over our lives. I ask for forgiveness if we have for whatever reason become complacent in our relationships with you, or in our approach of this so called walk called the gospel. May we worship you with fear and understanding, and may we sacrifice ourselves to give you excellence at all times, even when its new or uncomfortable. In Jesus name, Amen.
