Devotional 12/31

Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. 1 Peter 4:19

It is never too late to be who you might have been.
George Elliot

The Bible says we must love our enemies, forgive those who hurt us and walk as Jesus walked, doing good do others! If you love God, then ideally your life’s endeavor is to be a little version of Christ on this earth: a Christian. But being a Christian, requires much self effort and surrender to God. I hope you reflect today, on your sense of devotion to God as we close this year.

God revealed Himself to Israel, and He gave them protocols on how to be and live. God expected, demanded, or in other words required much from His people. God requires us to live in a way that pleases Him. It may hurt our pride or ego, but it produces good results!

The Bible sets the principles and standards we are to live by and it confronts us where we are. It’s full of promises, life principles and faith filled stories, but also of correction and warning (exhortation and admonishing). For instance, through the prophet Jeremiah the Lord tells His people to surrender their hearts, pride and power. And today God tell us to change our hearts before Him and surrender control.

When God makes a demand over our life, by taking us through a growth process, a pruning season, or a course correction: we can rest in knowing that we are in good hands. No discipline in the moment seems good, but the results are worth the pain. In order to live according to the word, we need the power of the Holy Spirit!

It is not enough to read the word, the Lord tells us to be doers of the word! We are to live as the scriptures teach, and what we know of it, is required of us!

Let’s pray:

Lord God Almighty, today we present our hearts and lives to you. May the meditation of our hearts and the words of our mouth be pleasing to you. I ask that you create in us a clean heart, and to renew a right spirit within us. May your Spirit overflow in our being so that we may be empowered to live according to your word, by the power of your might. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen!
