Devotional 1/22

Don’t look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don’t fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires total attention. Matthew 7:13-14

Refuse self-pity. Refuse it absolutely. It is a deadly thing with power to destroy you. Turn your thoughts to Christ who has already carried your grief and sorrows.

Elisabeth Elliot

The Lord has two things in position for us: ministry in His Church and a mission in the world. You were saved to serve God, the Bible says that it was His plan. Our purpose, identity, function and mission was designed by God: we were not saved by works, but we were saved for good works!

I won’t be speaking about God’s great plans for our lives, but of the fact that we are God’s servants (aka slaves). Once we accept Christ into our lives, our life is no longer our own. We live to serve God, and our life is now about bringing heaven to earth. The Lord calls us to a life of self discipline, sacrifice and ultimately surrender.

The Lord is our life coach.

  • He gives us the opportunity to become the people He designed us to be.
  • He transforms our nature and makes us the best version of ourselves.
  • He gives us a peace that surpasses all understanding and new relationships (friends and family).

We have the privilege of working with the Holy Spirit to walk in God’s supernatural design for our lives. The battles, the pain, the tears, the waiting, and each process is worth it. Much of our struggle as believers is the idea that God is good, and mistakenly believing that He will make our lives easy and problem free, while also blessing us abundantly.  This is only partially true: the Lord is a friend and a father but He also allows afflictions and challenges into our lives to maximize our potential, our capacity, our courage and self discipline.

Many believers today, become disappointed and discouraged because their reality does not match their expectations (of faith and promises of God) and I understand them 100%. I have personally experienced disappointment in serving the Most High God. But it is the best experience and privilege God can ever offer us. I would choose no other life, even if it has not been a smooth journey. Getting to the Promised Land, to the likeness of Jesus Christ or even to be a worthy and approved worker in the kingdom of God is a process! We are not informed of the process: nobody tells us of the loneliness, the betrayals, the waiting periods, the misunderstandings, the tests of faith, or the many liberations required to receive that which we are praying for!

We must be connected to the mind of God through the Holy Spirit, or else we will be ignorant of what God is up to in each season. Holy Spirit renews our minds, so that we can be in agreement with what God wants to do. The Bible says that the plans of God are always good, acceptable, pleasing and perfect in His eyes and in our own as well.

Seek to do the Lord’s will: He will open your understanding, capacitate you with the necessary wisdom and discernment, and love to deal accurately in and with all situations, people, and events just as Jesus would.

Let’s pray:

Father God, we thank you for calling us into this partnership. We thank you that we are not where or who we used to be, today I present to you where each of us are and where we fall short. Our goal is to please you and to know your will, so that we may do it. Help us Lord to accept where changes are needed and where we can develop more discipline. I thank you for giving us of your Spirit, and how you share your thoughts with us through Him. Thank you for wisdom, discernment and strategy Lord. Give us Your mind Jesus! Give us your eyes Lord! May we surrender to your call more and more each day. In Jesus name, Amen.
