Devotional 1/25

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. Genesis 3:4-6

My word is bond.

We are already in a battle with our flesh, we want to be the god of our own lives. As created beings, we will never be the Creator God. But we also have Satan who wants to be our god: desiring our worship, and our conformity to the ways of this world.

Satan, our tactful and slick enemy, will do anything to pervert our minds. When I say pervert, I mean that he distorts our minds and how we see God and ourselves. We must stand firm in knowing that God’s word is true: if He said it, then that settles it. God created Adam and Eve? Okay, we came from Adam and Eve, period. When we begin to doubt the Lord’s character, Satan gains legal access into our lives: it is an open door for him to snatch us and cause us to spiritually die or become contaminated. If he can place a single hint of doubt in our minds, then he is on his way to ruining our life, starting with our thought life. For example, when our prayers go unanswered for a long time, the enemy will tell us things like:

  • Is it true that God loves you? If God loved you, wouldn’t He have answered already?
  • Is it true that God is watching over you? You must not be important, that’s why things are the way they are.
  • Is it true that God is real? Where is He anyway?
  • Is it true that God rewards those who diligently seek Him? You have been super obedient and sacrificial… are you sure God said that?

Satan’s plan is to convince you that it is not absolutely a must to obey every word that God speaks. He tries to make you doubt God’s word, and His love for you. Adam and Eve fell because Eve doubted God’s word and responded to Satan. Satan trapped her once she responded to him, and this caused the end of their innocence. We shouldn’t have any type of response to Satan’s wiles: except to rebuke and bind him, and to praise and worship the Lord.

Even when we doubt God, or question His reasoning- we must keep a calm and praise-filled demeanor. Once Satan sees you responding to his tactics, he knows he is winning the battle in your mind! When Our Lord Jesus was to be crucified, He set his face like flint to go before his enemies. We too must set our face like flint when the enemy sends fiery darts our way!

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, you are awesome thank you for opening our eyes and understanding to your word. Thank you for your Spirit, and your faithfulness. We give you glory for fighting on our behalf, and keeping us from being destroyed by our adversaries. we thank you for faith and for giving us weapons and strategies with which to fight with! I declare that you set a table before in the presence of our enemies, be their names depression, discouragement, envy, lust, love of money, greed, anxiety, fear or any other enemy. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
