Devotional 3/3

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? James 2:14

The wisdom to know what must be done, and the courage to do it.

Would you start a relationship knowing you would be heartbroken in the long run?

There are no guarantees in love. We choose to love because we have faith in the future, faith in the possibilities, and faith in love itself. It takes faith to love because after all, who knows what will happen? It takes faith to love and even be in relationship.

See, we are moved by faith to act. When we are attracted to someone, we move by faith to enter relationship. It may be that we believe it’s time for us to love and be loved, or that we will be married someday… why not act on it? In essence the foundation of what we do comes from what we believe, and to have a belief is to have faith. The book of James says that faith alone does not save a person. He says people can tell me, you have faith, and I have works. But I say: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. In other words, James was saying, acts and faith are not and cannot be separate.

When we believe we are called to serve, we work as God’s instruments on earth. When we believe we can make the world a better place, we don’t wait for a command or ask for permission: we go for it in wisdom. The lord is not waiting for us to ask him for confirmation, He asks us to pray for wisdom in order to ACT. If you see a brother or sister who is hungry, must you pray and wait to see if you can feed them?! Faith looks like something: like action!

We serve because we have faith in God: we believe in ourselves and in His call for our lives. But just like love we enter a journey, where we don’t exactly know what to expect. We cannot expect God to answer our questions, act on command, and neither can we expect life to be what we want it to be. Our journey with the God who is love, is an action we make by faith! There is a hidden factor behind action: faith! And you dear beloved have acted on your faith. You have set goals and made plans: you enrolled in school, applied for jobs, you’re starting your own business: look at your ministry and activities: look at your prayer life!

We are all faith filled people. And if today would be a great time to place your faith in Jesus Christ. He has amazing things in store for you: no ear has heard, no eyes have seen, no mind has conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him!

Let’s pray:

Father, thank you for the measure of faith you have given each of us. I thank you for grace, mercy and conviction. I ask you Lord to increase our faith, and give us all deeper convictions of who you are, who we are in you, and what we are capable of. I pray for willingness to serve you wholeheartedly, and for you to remove all the veils which keep us from excelling to the next level because for fear of the unknown, self centeredness, comfort and even self consciousness. I pray for all these favors, in the matchless and invincible name of Jesus. Amen.
