After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ Acts 13:22
If you praise Him, God will find you.
Many of us can act Christian, do Christian things, and walk with Christian people. But does your life, do your decisions, and does your heart reflect the will of God? Is the bible relevant in how you live, walk and breathe? The Lord said David is a man that is chasing my heart! He wants us to romance Him, to acknowledge Him, to commit ourselves to Him, to be in a covenant relationship with Him.
In 1 Samuel 13:13-14, the Lord rejected Saul for being disobedient… and in the story’s context we can tell that God found someone different than Saul. God stated that Saul’s kingdom was over because of His arrogant disobedience: he thought it would please God to receive sacrifice and offerings, than to be obeyed. When we are after God’s heart, we:
- long to please Him (which is done by having faith in Him; Heb. 11:6).
- love Him, alone (which is to obey His commands; Jhn. 14:15).
- long to do God’s will (obedience is better than sacrifice; 1 Sam. 15:10)
The prophet Samuel did not chose David, neither was David praying to become the next king of Israel. God called Him a man after His own heart. God fixed His eyes on a little shepherd boy, who was technically a nobody. David’s example is good for us because we are imperfect sinners and are being made holy: holy means to be separated for God. David was far from perfect, but his faith was in God alone, he was a true and tested worshiper, his heart was filled with love, respect, gratitude and praise towards God. David was devoted and faithful towards God and His call over his life and he was in love with the word of God (God’s Law)! He was humble, repentant, reverential and trusting towards God. He had a deep desire to follow God’s will and do “everything” God wanted him to do.
Still today, God is looking for people who are after His heart! People who want to obey Him, to please Him and to love on Him. People who would lead from a place of humility, submission to human and divine authority, and with a heart full of love, first and foremost for God. Are you that person?
Father God, you are amazing and wonderful. You are the king of kings, and the Lord of lords. It’s not that we are good, or holy or righteous; its that you know our hearts. We exalt and glorify you, for raising us up in you my Jesus. We may have failed you, just like David but we will chase you despite it all. We will praise you at all times. I love you Lord. I love you forever. In the name of Jesus, yours is the glory forever. Amen.
