Do not forsake wisdom, she shall preserve you: love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:6-7
Trust no man who has no fear of God.
Wisdom is life. Wisdom tells you where to go, when it’s the right time and how you should go about it. It’s more than logic, and it’s accessible and freely given to all who ask for it. The Bible has a lot to say about wisdom:
- The beginning of wisdom is to fear the lord
- Wisdom is sweet to the soul
- Wisdom is a defense as money is a defense
- Wisdom is the foundation of true knowledge
- The tongue of the wise bring healing
- The wise woman builds her house
- The wise keep silent and know when to speak
- The wise are well tempered
- With humility comes wisdom
- Wisdom is in the lips of those who have understanding
- You will be wise if you listen to advice and accept instruction
Where’s the sense of being knowledgeable, yet not know where, when or how to apply it? Wisdom is the application of knowledge. King David’s son, Solomon was appointed king and of all things, he asked God for wisdom. The lord was pleased with him, and not only did Solomon receive wisdom: he receive much wealth and prosperity. The Bible says that the queen of Sheba in Egypt came to see the king and was amazed by his riches and glory. Solomon needed wisdom to govern a nation, the nation of God! He needed wisdom to build a temple for God! How can anyone live life and not humble themselves to ask God for His wisdom?!
The Bible warns us about being wise in our own eyes and about carnal wisdom being demonic. Personally, I believe you can never have enough wisdom. When we ask for wisdom, we’re telling God we want to do the right thing, and the right way. It is telling God I want to please you and I also acknowledge that I need you!
Do you want to please God? Do you want to be approved by God? Ask Him for wisdom.
Lord Jesus, you are wisdom. You were before creation began, you are sovereign and know the end from the beginning. Today we humble ourselves before you and ask you for wisdom. I ask you overflow our homes, our churches, the work we do and all that we are with your wisdom. We don’t want to be wise in our own opinion, we need you every step of the way. Thank you for giving us spiritual and material wealth, and transferring the wealth of the wicked into our hands. The glory is yours forever. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
