Devotional 4/22

May the God of hope, fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. Romans 15:13

The failure to reach one’s potential can usually be attributed to hidden areas of brokenness in one’s life.

God is our peace. One of God’s names is, Jehovah Shalom or God our peace. Shalom is not exactly defined as peace, but as completion, wholeness and harmony. It is God who makes us whole, and gives us harmony with others. In my mind, wholeness is necessary to have harmony with others.

When we have peace with God, we can have peace with others. But it is a mysterious thing, that if we do not have peace with ourselves, we cannot have peace with God. In order to receive God’s forgiveness and have peace: we must first forgive ourselves. Before we can forgive ourselves, we must love ourselves. God gives us the grace we need to make changes, so give yourselves a break! We all make mistakes, guilt doesn’t have to become a heavy burden! Self-awareness and improvement are great, but they don’t have to become heavy weights! We all have places where we need to change, we all have things we wish we could have done better, or not have done at all. You compliment, comfort and empower everyone else: remember to love yourself too! When you love you:

  • You accept yourself as you are and where you are
  • You approve of yourselves
  • You care for yourselves

When we dislike ourselves: we compare ourselves with others, discredit, criticize or condemn ourselves and we also in-avertedly put ourselves in danger. Who are you, to dislike or depreciate yourself? God has already approved you, and me! If He has approved and accepted YOU, then YOU should too! This knowledge helps us accept ourselves and the love of God.

Start acknowledging the good: focus on praising yourself, laughing at yourself, enjoying yourself, and forgiving yourself!

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, thank you for your love and forgiveness. Thank you for accepting us as we are, and giving us the grace to continue to change and adjust. Help each person today, know they are forgiven whether or not they feel forgiven. Help them know your love, even if they consider themselves unlovable. And Lord I ask you to reveal any and all hidden brokenness, so that they may become whole by your grace and power. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
