Devotional 5/3

Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

You can tell how real God’s process is in your life, by whether you continue with Him.

Have you ever been in the wilderness? Why would God take us through a season of wilderness? Has He not tested us enough?

We know that God had the Israelites go through the wilderness so that they can know what was in their hearts. We also know that Jesus was taken into the wilderness by the Spirit of God to be tempted of the devil. And the prophet Elijah, who was a man of many passions, fled to the wilderness, and hid in a cave after being threatened by Jezebel.

The wilderness is a time of drought: the temptations are intense and we are spiritually attacked. It is a place of discomfort, keeping us with an intense desire for joy and relief. Through it all the Lord wants us to seek His face, and wait on His set time for release. As we wait we can see the faithfulness and provision of God, if we are grateful and we mature in the Lord, if we guard our hearts.

The Israelites were in the wilderness and they had no lack, maybe they didn’t expect what met them in the wilderness; yet God gave them what He thought was best. Their clothes and shoes never wore out, and their needs were met in their time of need. Elijah was fed by the ravens, and he got to know a different facet of God: His still voice. And after His wilderness season was over, angels ministered to Jesus.

If you’re in an uncomfortable place, a dry place; be assured, GOD IS WITH YOU. The Lord knows your exact location, and He is walking with you every step of the way. You may be waiting for signs and wonders, but God is speaking to you in a small voice. Maybe you’re expecting this or that, but be grateful! Maybe you want something new: new clothes, a new job or a new attitude: but whatever you have and where ever you are, is exactly what God intends for you right now.

Don’t worry, the wilderness doesn’t last forever! God will come through for you in His appointed time!

Let’s pray:

Lord God, thank you for doing a new thing. Thank you for your provisions in the wilderness. Thank you for giving us the eyes to see your goodness and mercy. Your goodness and mercy follows us all the days of our lives. Today I pray for you to speak to us in that small still voice. May we discern your voice at all times. I also pray for wisdom, courage and boldness in Jesus name. Amen.
