But godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment. 1 Timothy 6:6

If you can’t learn to enjoy your life when you have problems, you may never enjoy it because we’ll always have problems.

 Joyce Meyer

Is it possible to be satisfied with God alone? There comes a time when we realize that Christ is all we need.

My prayer is always, Lord I don’t care what happens just don’t take your Spirit from me! God will give us joy, when we delight in having him in our lives. What being would be happy of being disrespected, overlooked or taken for granted. In the Amplified bible, this scripture reads in an amazing way: godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment [that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God].

Godliness:

  • someone’s inner response to the things of God which shows itself as godly;
  • “godly heart-response”;
  • naturally expresses itself in reverence for God.

Contentment:

  • a perfect condition of life, in which no aid or support is needed;
  • a sufficiency of the necessaries of life;
  • a mind contented with its lot, self satisfied.

The Lord wants us to remember that we only need the  presence of God, to be self satisfied. The context of conversation in 1st Timothy 6, is about how many people go astray going after money and other ambitions. So Paul reminds his spiritual son,  be satisfied in God- not in things of this world. We can have fun, money, vacations, spouses and all that our hearts desire: but is it worth the presence of God? If you’ve ever known the silence and emptiness of God in your life, you’d never want to experience that again! There are times when God is quiet and distant: when we do not know the Lord, when we grieve the Spirit, when God takes us into a wilderness, or when we leave the Lord. I’m not saying that we can’t desire things, or that we can’t achieve them… but I am saying that we should be cautious of where we place our desires and focus. It is very easy for desires to become idols. If only this could happen: IDOL. I would be happy if: IDOL.

Trusting God allows us to accept life as it is. Acceptance helps us want and embrace all of God’s will! The good, the bad and the ugly! The will of God is perfect and He knows what He is doing.

Let’s pray:

Father God, we see your power and your strength. We recognize your goodness. We see your favor, mercy and grace. I pray for a renewed joy for all the saints. May we all have satisfaction in you. May we delight in you. May we have contentment in knowing you. May you restore our hearts, so we can keep moving forward and fulfill your call and purpose. If there are feelings or desires in us which are debilitating, I pray you remove them by your consuming fire. I pray your will is to heal us all Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
