Devotional 5/29

For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. Romans 5:10

It is misleading to say that God accepts us the way we are. Rather He accepts us despite the way we are.

Sinclair Ferguson

Why the gospel? What’s the good news? What’s the big deal about Jesus? The good news of the gospel is that Jesus died and resurrected to make us right with God.

From the beginning of creation, God has been trying to be with man. From the Garden of Eden, to the tabernacle, to the temple of God, to the Holy Spirit in us. God has desired to be in a relationship with us since day one. But sin has separated us from God in such a way, that we want to be God, resist Him, while others resent Him. God’s intention has always been to be in relationship with us.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, many people know Jesus came and died for our sins. He forgave us. He offers us new life. But what for? Jesus the Christ, died for the entire world. Through Christ we can be accepted by God. Through Christ we can pray and be forgiven. Through Christ we receive eternal life. But the good news is that the kingdom of God came to be with us and in us. The Cross is the gospel. What happened on the cross?

The cross gave us peace and brought us back to God.

Let’s pray:

Father God, thank you for sending your only son to die in my place. Thank you for redeeming my time and destiny. I pray you reveal to your children what the Good News is. May we be renewed and refreshed by the Good News. Thank you Lord, in Jesus name. Amen.
