Devotional 7/1

The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. Psalm 23: 1-2

You have made us for Yourself God;
and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.

St. Augustine

God will lead us, He wants to lead us; He wants to take us to places where we can rest. He wants to give us water for our thirst. He wants to feed us, He wants us to just walk Him. But what stops us from walking with God? What stops us from fully surrendering to God? What stops us from running after our destiny… our purpose? It is sin that stops us.

Sin causes damage. When Adam and Eve sinned, they fell and gave away their authority, the glory and their connection with God. They gave away their perfect state of being: they were perfect! So because of Adam and Eve, we were born into sin. We were born into brokenness, into offense, into rejection and into heartbreak, into sickness, into disease and into mental problems.

We all need peace and calm. And God wants us to have that, He wants to lead us into His rest. We cannot just go and find peace, we can do so many things and not have that peace that surpasses all understanding in our souls. The scripture says that He will lead us to lie down in green pastures. He wants us to know that He’s got it all under control, He is working on it! He will lead us beside the still waters, which mean that there is rest, peace, joy and stability where He takes us. There is no stagnancy in God, there’s stability, consistency and calm.

Let’s pray:

Father God, I pray that you give us rest and give us a knowing of resting in you. May we know how to rest in you, and make it a daily habit. May we recognize when we are not resting in you Jesus. I pray you help each individual, stop worrying and cast their cares on you; may they release all the burdens which cause them stress, tension, heaviness and pain. I also pray that your children will forgive themselves and others. In Jesus name, Amen.
