Devotional 7/16

You want things, but you don’t get them. So you kill and are jealous of others. But you still cannot get what you want. So you argue and fight. You don’t get what you want because you don’t ask God. James 4:2

Through prayer, fasting and studying, God will answer.

Monica Johnson

We are always told to pray. Praying means talk to God. God leans in to listen to our prayers.

The moment we raise our hearts to ask God for a favor, the answer is immediately ushered. God says, YES, NO or WAIT. When God says yes, He gives us instructions. When He says no, He is protecting us and waiting for us to yield to His will. And when He says wait, He’s working on our hearts: preparing us for what’s coming. The best attitude to have before God is a disposition of rest, and preparation.

The book of James says, you have because you ask not. God knows our hearts, He knows our thoughts and desires. God knows the intentions of our hearts, and if what we desire is not beneficial for us: He will not release it (Jam. 4:3). Verse 2 tells us a secret: if for some reason you are jealous or comparing yourself to another, it means that you desire/ admire that thing (whatever that person has/does). And God’s solution is prayer! If you don’t have it, it’s because you haven’t asked me for it… so ask Me!

The Lord is simply waiting for an act of faith on our part. Be specific and be intentional. God is ready to answer your prayers.

Let’s pray:

Thank you Lord God for listening to our prayers. I pray you strengthen the feeble knees and the weak hands. Revive the fire of those who feel tired of praying the same prayers, those who have been waiting and face lost hope, and even those who are struggling with shame, sin, or lack of faith. Increase their strength and convictions. In Jesus name, Amen.
