And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses. Mark 11: 25-26
When a deep injury is done to us, we never heal until we forgive.
Anger stems from unmet expectations. It’s normal to have expectations, especially from people we care about or things which seem to be stable like a job, or a position. But life doesn’t always go as we desire it to go.
People will let us down, they will violate our rights, and quite honestly think of themselves before taking you into consideration. We all experience anger and disappointment: people let us down, promises are broken, agreements forgotten, our name is slandered, and our standards are violated. We all experience injustice, and offense but God doesn’t excuse us from forgiving others. The scriptures say that if we do not forgive others, then the Lord will not forgive us! Imagine that!
The Lord God would never withhold forgiveness from any of us, not even the “worst” of sinners. Forgive those who have hurt you, so that the Lord could forgive you too.
Lord Jesus, thank you for extending your forgiveness to us. Thank you for forgiving even the worse of our sins. Thank you for reminding us that we are to be more like you. I pray you give us the grace to forgive those who have hurt us, and give us the grace to love them as you have done with us too. In Jesus name, Amen.
