But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
Cultivate the seed of God in your life
Self-control is to have control of your SELF, but we must train ourselves. God in us, has given us the fruit of His spirit.
The Bible tells a story about Joseph who ran from Potiphar’s wife. He knew it would displease God, and give the enemy an open door to make him bound if he had sex with her. But he took control of himself, by running out of the situation. Although I’m speaking about sex, we need self control for every aspect of life.
We need self control when eating, sleeping, studying and any other aspect relating to desires or appetites. For instance, Peter needed self control when Jesus was arrested. Instead of applying self control, he cut the soldiers ear off in haste. Jesus rebuked him for this, and used it for His glory. But it is not Gods desire that we act recklessly or hastily when doing anything. May the Holy Spirit develop self control in every area of our lives!
Father God, thank you for being our counselor and teacher. Help us live right before your eyes Lord. May we develop your fruit in our lives, in Jesus name, Amen.
