Faithful servants

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Faithful servants never retire. You can retire from your career, but never retire from serving God.

Rick Warren

Being planted in a church keeps us grounded and prepares us to serve others, as Christ intends. To be rooted in Christ is to have communion with Him and produce fruit where others can see Christ through us. We must maintain our relationship with God so that we may be spiritually fit.

Fitness: an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce in a particular environment; potential, capacity.

When we serve out of love, when we surrender to live for God not to be confused with serving in a church. God is glorified when His life is reflected in our daily lives in and out of the church walls. Endless service can be detrimental to our ur spiritual life. There was a lady in John 10, named Martha in the scriptures who was so busy working in the kitchen of her home, and failed to pay attention to Jesus who came over to visit.

Ministry flows in ur if our love for God, it is not our identity. And serving in church does not mean we are closer to God, or more spiritual. We are closer to God and more spiritual when we have intimacy with Christ through prayer and meditation on the word of God. We must set boundaries as we do with our secular jobs, and ensure that we serve God and not man. Serving from a wrong heart will do us and God a disservice, as would also make overworking and neglecting other aspects of our lives here on earth.

Our relationship with God is our first ministry. It is followed by our ministry called family. And lastly it may be church or our purpose in Christ. May we always keep these in the correct order!

Let’s pray:

Thank you Lord Jesus for calling us into your marvelous light and making us your church. I pray you give us wisdom and discernment to know when we are being used or manipulated by others, and when we are being used or led of you Jesus. I pray you give wisdom to your servants and to church leadership that they and we may all keep you in first place, understanding that we belong to you and all that we have been allotted is only to be good stewards. In Jesus name, Amen.
