Conversations with God

Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

A blessing is a responsibility not a luxury.

The scripture says that there are different types of prayers. I’ve heard that there are 7, other people say 4. Whether we have an exact number or not, the scriptures are clear that seeking the thoughts and ways of God is what we are after in prayer.

Do you consult with God on what your next move should be? Or do you decide what you will do and then ask God to bless it? Most people I know have a one way conversation with God. But the Bible says we should bring our petitions and supplications to God. It also says we should intercede for others. There are prayers of confession, of forgiveness and of thanksgiving.

Petition: make or present a formal request to (an authority) with respect to a particular cause; Appeal to, request, ask.

Supplication: the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly

Confession: a formal statement admitting that one is guilty of a crime.

Forgiveness: the action or process of forgiving or being forgiven: to pardon.

Thanksgiving: the expression of gratitude, especially to God; act of giving thanks;  a public celebration in acknowledgment of divine favor or kindness.

Intercession: the action of intervening on behalf of another; the action of saying a prayer on behalf of another person.

The Bible says that the Lord hearkened to Rachel and opened her womb (Genesis 30:22). Up until that moment there is no mention of Rachel ever praying or communicating in anyway with God but God knows our hearts. The Lord knows the sincerity and intentions of our hearts, even to the point of knowing what our very tears mean when we can’t utter a word.

There is no protocol to prayer but there is an attitude of humility that must be foremost. Remember God has the pieces to your puzzle and He will lead you into all of your tomorrows. Exalt him and humble yourself under His mighty hand.

Let’s pray:

Thank you Father God for your grace and mercy, for your goodness and love. I pray for all my brothers and sisters to receive a new fiery desire to seek you and your kingdom through prayer. May you be out GPS Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
